Based on this Merkel is 20 seats sort of majority (631 seats, 316 for majority) if allies with FDP (free Democrat Party)

Which leaves Socialist (SDP) leaving AFD out in cold

Some were hoping for AFD to come in second and become opposition

CDU/AfD/FDP is the logical conservative majority. The only reason for making it CDU/FDP/Green (Jamaica Flag Coalition) is virtue signalling. Green Party really has no place in a conservative government.
