NFL commissioner Roger Goodell fired back at President Trump on Saturday for encouraging league owners to remove players who take a knee during the national anthem, saying Trumps divisive comments show an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL.
The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture, Goodell said in a statement. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month.
Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.

Good Goodell, walk away from Trump supporters and the majority of your fan base. I hope he keeps this up along with the overpaid disrespectful loser players.
Goodell is a globalist providing the circus half of the bread and circuses for the dumbed down masses. The public will see that they can’t relate to you and your sport anymore.
My gut reaction to his comments is loathing for him and his business. Just more entitled PC rat speak. He can take “divisive” and shove it.
Go get ‘em, Trump. I hope the NFL burns to the ground.
The only thing that would change my mind is to see Goodel on his knees apologizing to the country.
This just gets better and better. Goodell has quite the tin ear. How about showing respect for the Presidency? That flew out the window because your coddled overgrown juvenile delinquents decided to make some sort of show out of it?
But the fans can also get up a leave to show their disrespect for the NFL and their bone-headed policies.
I was an athlete in school but never have been a sports fan.
But if I was an NFL fan, I wouldn't be anymore with the political crap that they encourage.
People go to sporting events for entertainment and to get away from the drudgery of their lives.
They don't want to be subjected to the players' personal politics on display on the field.
Good for Trump in suggesting that the fans leave the stadiums when these un-American displays are allowed to interrupt the event.
The NFL will rue the day they did not put a stop to this behavior by their players.
Please tell me why anyone should respect the NFL much less the President of the United States?
Very valid point. But I am a born and raised white middle class, Christian male who has all but dumped NFL and I watch and coach soccer. Fell in love with game while overseas. More young Americans play soccer then football and continue to follow the game as adults. Games are fast, few delays and you can watch three or four major leagues live streaming or TV. The NFL is becoming a dinosaur and without change will go the way of the dinosaurs. Also, lawyers queuing up to sue after Hernandez findings.
Soon you will see hats reading Make the NFL Great Again.

I don’t know about that. The NFL has become a gaudy, heavily over commercialized spectacle that has already turned off many people who were once fans. It has long since morphed from being an entertaining sport into a tasteless display of arrogance and exhibitionism.
The Democrats and Leftists ruin everything they touch and control. They have ruined our election system, our schools, our legal system and now they are in the process of ruining our sports. Goodell’s comment shows he is not capable of rational thought if he honestly believes that the NFL support of these kneeling players is a force for unity in this country.
Didn’t I hear the prez call the players going on their knees S O Bs? First time I ever heard the prez bleeped. But it sure is about time the spoiled millionaires called out
It’s called College Football.
It’s all I watch.
I have attended a few NFL games over the years. The fans have become progressively worse. The pre-game festivities in the parking lots and after game antics are revolting. It is like being in a drunk tank. The NFL games are becoming akin to the Roman Colosseum.
...talk about stepping in it.
treating our police and the entire white population is not divisive?...

Good comments overall, but particularly this one.
People used to look forward to a few hours of relaxation and got their minds off of work and other problems by focusing on the contest, the skills of the players, and perhaps most importantly, the pleasure of being a couch coach. I mean, who didn’t enjoy second guessing every play and key moments in the game?
But now, the escapism once offered by the sport is gone. Its become politicized, like everything else.
Yep same here...when I watch the NFL I see all those anti American thugs...not all but the majority!! How do I know this..watch how some patriotic players put there hands over their hearts during the national anthem and those who are forced to stand there silently protesting by refusing to put their hand over their hearts when it’s playing!!..watch for that next time you tune in to a game!!! AND YOU’LL SEE I’M RIGHT!!
“The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture, Goodell said in a statement.”
Yeah Roger, that’s the ticket! Your problem is you don’t know what “sense of unity” means.
I wonder if the NFL is still charging the Department of Defense for “honoring” our troops during the games?
Yeah. We should really show our “respect” for that crap.
I mean teams like the scabs that played during the strike. I liked that.
“...they are part of the problem and should be shunned by all patriotic fans.”
They ARE the problem!
