Feds Paid $1.7 Million to Kids in Juvie

The Social Security Administration improperly paid children in juvenile detention facilities $1.7 million, according to a new audit.

The inspector general for the agency found that just four states accounted for the improper disability payments. The estimate for fraudulent payments was "conservative" since the audit did not compile all data from the four states reviewed...*snip SEE POST #1*

"While SSA had established overpayments for 274 of these juveniles, we identified 273 instances where SSA was unaware of all or part of the confinement period. We determined that 158 of these juveniles were confined for 6 months or longer without SSA's knowledge."

Guess which four states (hint see TOPICS)

Federal law requires payments on behalf of minors to be discontinued for a full calendar year if the minor is admitted to a correctional facility.

Paid $1.7 million TO kids in juvie, or to parents or legal guardians of said kids? I can't visualize a kid under supervision receiving a check in his name.

Exactly. Payments to the parent or guardian. Those parents were probably also receiving welfare checks on kids while they were in juvie. The graft is huge.

Yesterday in Jacksonville, one of our urban outdoorsmen was charged with murder. Seems he shot his cousin who paid him for drugs with a food stamps card that had less on it then he told him it had.

These programs got to go. What happened to the notion the food supplements were foodstuffs furnished rather than cash? My guess is there would be less fraud if those needing food actually received food, rather than a means to barter their cash like benefits.

I wonder why Social Security is going bankrupt? How about if the only people who get money out of SS actually put it in first?

“The inspector general for the agency found that just four states accounted for the improper disability payments. “

Obviously the author did not read the report ...

Ridiculous, isn’t it. Even back in the 70s, they’d sell their food stamps for cash. The whole system needs to be overhauled and severely limited.

Years ago, my secretary shared the lobby widow with the welfare secretary. The welfare secretary, after years of dealing with the scumbags, got fed up with them getting more than she was working 40 hours a week so quit.
