To Save Itself, The GOP Needs To Figure Out How To Deliver For Trump

The GOP Needs To Pass Something

If there’s any hope for the damaged Republican brand—and the sanity of anyone watching this slow-motion train wreck—GOP leaders on the Hill must demonstrate some skill and competency by passing something supported by the president. It’s impossible to build influence with an executive or with voters when you have no track record of success. Repair your division’s reputation so you can convince the President to move forward with your agenda, instead of with proposals you oppose.

Get members of your division in line to support and pass something and simply lead. Play offense.

Republicans also have to face reality. They have a leader they despise, and they are stuck with him for the next three to seven years. Stasis and obstruction are short-term tactics, not a viable long-term strategy. If they want to save their party, they should compromise with the president the way they’ve compromised with members of the of the opposition party numerous times over the years. Congress knows how to do this. They just need to explain to their lobbyist comrades on K Street that they will have to accept some losses.

If the GOP does not do this, the president has already demonstrated he will find another dancing partner. And the consequences will be far worse and more damaging to the party’s future than simply giving a little to move something forward. Republicans simply don’t have the currency and support to do anything else.

If the GOP weren't still in favor of their self-made swamp then they would be backing Trump to the hilt. Follow the money and you'll find that everyone in DC is on the take.

Everyone except President Donald J. Trump who made is money the old fashioned way with capitalism, brains and moxie.

This is the real question, isn’t it? Does the Swamp/GOPe really value survival over draining the Swamp? Cuz if they sign on with Trump in any way, he will have the political clout to do all the other stuff he wants, at least until 2020 when they can play the game again.

It doesn’t seem to me the Established Republican have no intention of helping Pres. Trump get his agenda passed. Not with Ryan and especially McConnell at the helms.

The Republicans don’t need to save the party or their seats. They would like to stay in office but if they do that by enacting Donald the Trump’s program they will lose their lifetime wealth and security which they will keep even if they lose the next election so long as they prevent that program. And if they all lose their seats in primaries and the next Congress is just as Republican, the new members will find out which the road to riches goes and will follow it slavishly.

The GOP is incapable of saving anything, let alone themselves. They truly are the do nothing party, and I say this as a lifelong Republican.

I’ve been a life-long (yet former) Republican. I could care less if 75% of all Republicans lost their seats (As long as it’s not to other Uniparty members). They need to be replaced with true patriots.

Doesn’t help that so many so-called conservatives constantly try to find fault with Trump and ring the “he’s betraying us” bell as often and loud as they can...they might as well start backing Hillary for 2020...

The GOP Needs To Pass Something

The problem is that the GOP will pass anything just to say that they passed something. They will pass a piece of crap replacement for Obamacare regardless of the fact that it's just as expensive and just as bad in its own way as Obamacare was. They will pass some sort of amnesty for Dreamers just to say that they passed something on immigration. They just want to get something for Trump to sign.

No, they don't need to pass "something". They need to pass (or rather, repeal) all the things they've whined about to us if only we gave them Congress AND THE PRESIDENCY. Well, guess what -- we did our part. We called their bluff. And the now these lying, traitorous bastards are revealed for the useless garbage they actually are!
