An engineering student who was an LGBTQ activist was shot and killed by Georgia Tech campus police on Saturday night, officials said Sunday.
The school identified the victim as Scout Schultz, 21, a fourth-year engineering student from Lilburn, Georgia, who police said was armed with a knife. Schultz, president of Georgia Tech's Pride Alliance, identified as non-binary and intersex and preferred to be referred to with they/them gender pronouns, according to the alliance's website.
At a news conference Monday, Schultz's family's attorney said the student was experiencing a "mental breakdown" on the night of the shooting.

Ever since I watched a live video of some police officer in South America disarming and arresting a knife weilding criminal, I know our cops gunning people down who hold knives is bullsh8t.
It’s amazing what an incident like this can do to a person. I was in the AShau with 101st for 11 months and only got into 3 fire fights. Lost a good friend and took a round and some shrapnel in the last one. For some reason that never really bothered me. I never forget it by but it doesn’t weigh on me, why I don’t know. My first year with the Sheriff’s Department I took about a 4 inch kitchen knife to my left lung in a domestic dispute. That never bothered me.
3 months into my fifth year with the Sheriff’s department we were serving a warrant for a known dealer and thief, about a week earlier he’d burglarized the Luther Church out in the county. My partner and I did the entry with several PD officers in front of the motel and behind it. I took out the door and he made entry immediately going to the back of the room where the suspect was attempting to flush drugs and syringes. I locked on the other individual who was a female laying in the bed. She was wearing a long sleeve sweat shirt with blood stains running up both arms. It wasn’t until I ran her ID that I recognized who she was. 2 years prior to that she was the Home Coming Queen for a small community on the east side of the county. Not only did I know her but her family as well. I’ve know her since she was born and her and my daughter were the same age and had some of the same classes. She had been to our house many times over the years. Now she was sitting there with her arms covered in blood and physically unrecognizable as the beautiful young girl I’d witnessed growing up. Where she is now I do not know, her father transferred to New Mexico with the company he worked for and we have no contact now. There was no fight, there was no fear but that day bothered me more than any other I’ve experienced. A few months later I went to the Sheriff explained what was going on and turned in my resignation. It’ funny and frightening how things can get in the brain and never let go.
I disagree somewhat. The Bipolar Junction Transistor is used as a joke on this diagram. It is actually the electronic schematic symbol for a transistor.
People with bi-polar disorder often self medicate with alcohol and drugs.
Anyone commenting adversely towards these cops, that hasn’t read up on the Tueller drill, is talking out of an orifice other than their mouth. You are spot on, in how fast things can go south with an attacker with a knife.
And you would be wrong. Hermaphrodism is a birth defect. Like conjoined twins.
Spot on. You’ve probably see this, but here’s a video where a cop tries to use a TAZER on a bat-wielding man, the TAZER shot fails, and the cop is now faced with dealing with a large angry man in close proximity with a bat. Fortunately the cop was good with his sidearm.

So because it turned out well in that case, you think it will in the majority of cases?
with proper training, yes
My everyday carry includes a speed opener assisted knife, it doesn’t take a second or two to open. Closed and in my hand the opening is near instantaneous and I’m 70.
With a closed knife in hand an adreline jumped up young man can start his rush from 20 feet away, be within striking distance before the cop is aware of the fatal threat.
This instance was suicide by cop by a deranged sexual deviant activist well aware of the “political” effect his death would have. He wanted the theater and group think reaction.
Drop what ever is in your hand or be dropped...the choice was his, as was the drama queens staging of the event.
I notice that early stories emphasized the fact that he had a knife, while these later stories bury that fact, with some stating only that “Police SAY he had a knife”.
And the media wonders why they are untrusted.
Gender confusion is part of EVERY major disorder. This poor soul was a tortured soul, hate to learn what his home life was like growing up.
I’ve carried a Spyderco Delica or similar for around 20 years. It was my airplane carry pre-9/11, when it was just under the legal limit back then.
You are spot on, and those thinking dealing with knife wielding attackers is easy simply haven’t adequately analyzed the body of evidence out there.
‘That is only accepting the terms of discovariety of urse dictated by our enemies the gender ideologues.’
so all we have to do is stop saying ‘gender’ when we mean ‘sex’ and this whole issue goes away...?
if that’s not what you’re saying, what possible difference could it make what term is used...being the grammatical genius you obviously are, you should be fully aware of the multiplicity of etymological twins in the English language...
From this video [LINK] of the shooting is below screen capture:
The turgidity on these threads is amazing.
Carried a Buck 110 with diy thumb post, was introduced to the Spydercos thru my gal pal way back...in NYC.
If you need an EDC, the quickest I’ve found are the Kershaw Speed-Safe line, hands down. Prices are very reasonable for a high quality build. Employs your index finger, like a trigger, rather than thumb hole or post for shorter, more ergonomic motion path. Mine came with a thumb post as well. IMHO a 5 star.
Not only that, it was a lunatic with a knife who was probably drugged as well. A taser is not a magic spell. It can get hung on clothing or miss.
To the Monday AM QB’s: If a guy was coming towards you with a knife and you had a gun, what would you do?
Not the entire mag but more than one center mass without a thought.
Not only is the knife open but he’s also attempting to conceal it...or believed the overhand stab was the way to go....A$$hole in every way possible.
