Replacing DACA: Future Dreamers Should Be Protected Too

With the emergence in the last week of Bipartisan Trump, we face the prospect of congressional implementation of a statute that replaces DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) sooner rather than later. Despite some ambivalent tweeting, it now appears as though Trump has agreed in principle with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi to enshrine DACA in legislation that also includes additional border security measures (but not border wall funding). Between Democrats and pro-business (and thus pro-immigration) "establishment" Republicans, there is likely majority support in Congress for such a measure.

Wait. How can their be future “DACA’s” if we secure the border? Oh, that is right, to Democrats a secure border is an open border.

There is no reason for future DACA’s unless there will be juveniles illegally brought into this country by parents or sex traffickers.

The left wants exceptions and that’s the problem with `act’ utilitarianism. According to act-utilitarianism, it is the value of the consequences of the particular act that counts when determining whether the act is right.
It’s similar to `man is the measure of all things.’

Utilitarianism: seeking to accomplish the greatest amount of good for the greatest number of people.
It has been described as a philosophical theory fit for swine.

`Rule’ utilitarianism: a rule, no exceptions because exceptions tend to degrade the rule until it is no longer a rule.
In a society as litigious as ours, `act’ utility simply won’t work; as you point out, if we except one, we except ten; if we except ten, a hundred and it metastasizes exponentially, not just to current illegals but future “immigrants”.

This seeming dilemma/`Gordion knot’ is addressed handily as a categorical imperative, or the unconditional moral principle that one’s behavior should accord with universalizable maxims which respect persons as ends in themselves; the obligation to do one’s duty for its own sake and not in pursuit of further ends.
We have done nothing wrong. We are “the persons to be respected”. Our behavior is not at issue. Our immigration laws were designed to protect America, not immigrants.
Those urging that we “think of the children” are aiding and abetting violators of our laws. Since we are hearing it from the Democrats and open borders shills, that shouldn’t be surprising.

This is why we have laws, because men are fallible. As far as the health, safety and welfare of the United States of America is concerned, we are either a nation of laws or we are not. Enforce the law and all else follows.
Enforcement of law is President Trump’s raison d’être, or reason for being. This is an interesting time for him. Let’s hope for all our sakes that he does the right thing.
