North Korea fires 2nd missile over Japan in a month, sparking US condemnation

North Korea launched another missile Friday, the rogue nation's first missile launch since its massive nuclear test more than a week ago, prompting U.S. officials to issue a sharp round of condemnation.

The missile was launched eastward early Friday from Sunan, the site of Pyongyang's international airport. It flew over northern Japan before landing in the Pacific Ocean, according to U.S. Pacific Command.

President Donald Trump, who last month vowed "fire and fury" if North Korea ramped up its nuclear threats, didn't immediately comment. However, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis called the missile a reckless act by the North Koreans, adding that the missile "was fired over Japan and put millions of Japanese in duck and cover." Mattis said President Trump has been fully briefed on the missile.

We are at war with NK.
South Korea is at war with NK.
The War has been going on since the 1950s. It’s an actual war.

In war, people die. On both sides.
This crazy guy has nukes and he has missiles. We need to take him out. We need to destroy his toys.
NK will likely have some ability to respond to our attack(most likely with artillery).
Our ally South Korea will have losses.
Yes, people will die. On both sides.

People used to understand this basic fact about War.

If we fail to understand this, eventually an American city will be vaporized by a Korean nuke.

My Grandpa passed away a good 40+ years ago but I still remember a saying of his.

“You’re crusin’ for a bruisin’.”

(Looking at you, N Korea...)

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to let those missiles splash down and study them instead of blasting them to bits? I just hope that is happening.

The Japs should be taking anti-missile practice on those launches.

A fair comment.

The UN (an organization that I do not care for) basically got this rolling. From Wikipedia:

United Nations Security Council Resolution 83, adopted on June 27, 1950, determined that the attack on the Republic of Korea by forces from North Korea constituted a breach of the peace. The Council called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for the authorities in North Korea to withdraw their armed forces to the 38th parallel. They also noted the report by the United Nations Commission on Korea that stated North Korea's failure to comply with Security Council Resolution 82 and that urgent military measures were required to restore international peace and security.

The Council then recommended that "Members of the United Nations furnish such assistance to the Republic of Korea as may be necessary to repel the armed attack and to restore international peace and security in the area."

So I was wrong. The US Congress never formally declared war against North Korea.

But the conflict in the 1950s ended with an Armistice, not a Peace Treaty, and North Korea has repudiated the Armistice on multiple occasions.

In any event, they are a hostile country which has threatened us with nukes. I have no patience for that.

It appears tough talk didn’t work any better than sending them cash. Upside is talk is cheap.

The U.N. is at war with NK. As a member we are obligated to fight their battles.

U.S. OUT OF U.N., U.N. OUT OF U.S., NOW!

Send them packing to Paris, Brussels or Beijing.

get a Declaration of War from Congress

we need to buttress rule of law when we have a Repub in power to prevent lawlessness when the dems return.

Repubs control both houses - a Declaration of War should be a slam dunk

Instead of shooting it down, why not send a letter. Getting tired of not destroying every missile they launch. Good practice, or maybe we can't. Getting worried.

Japan should fire a missile over North Korea. Or at least, we should.

Without an actual nuke strike on an American city, I doubt there will EVER be a formal declaration of war against ANY country, ever. Neither Congress nor the people have the will.

Yes. Why are we not responding in kind?

Fat Kim reminds me of a slight of hand Magician who is dealing a number of cards with his right hand to distract everyone. He doesn’t need those intercontinental missiles.
The most important question to ask ( which nobody does) is:
Where is that new NOKO Sub capable of carrying missiles?
While we focus on his Missiles from N.Korea, while that Sub could be just outside NY or any major city in International waters.
We need to make sure it accidentally smashes into the sea floor, never to be seen again.

when did Congress declare war ?

Is it not a war when one side won't call it such?

Japan said it would not tolerate any more rockets being fired over them.

So, I’m expecting aggressive origami any minute now.

And for those saying respond in kind, it’s a bit dangerous to fire missiles near North Korea, take a look at a map.

if you can’t get a DoW because the ‘will’ does not exist, then your case for war is too weak.

1. Even a nuke strike wouldn't do it.

2. 9/11 proved your point.

Historically its the Dems that declare war. Every war results in expanded domestic powers for the US Federal government. Every federal power grab is a “War”. War on drugs, war on poverty,
