Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich has issued a decree banning guns in all parishes, schools and other facilities across the archdiocese.
The decree, effective Thursday, echoes statements the cardinal has made over the past two years in support of banning guns from churches. It stipulates that anyone found with a gun on archdiocesan property will be asked to remove it from the premises and won't be allowed to return until it's gone. Clerics and staff members also will face disciplinary action. The decree does not prevent clergy who own guns legally for hunting or sports from keeping their firearms inside a rectory, as long as the weapons are unloaded and stored in a lockbox or safe.

Notice what he's saying. He's not threatening prosecution for bringing a gun. He's just saying "Don't make us notice you have it".

Politics, ok but it dances around the issue when it should be very clear that anyone in the pews might be carrying, immediately ready, willing and able to defend themselves, the clergy and the congregation. Anything less is an invitation to those not of sound mind and bad intent that will take this announcement at face value.

That certainly doesn’t mean that all priests are evil. I believe the majority of priests are still good men, dedicated to their calling, and trying to be the best shepherds they can be. But if calling me a bigot for saying the Catholic Church “did nothing” makes you feel better about yourself or your church, have at it. The public record and the deeds of the Catholic Church leadership in dealing with these perverts say more about them than I ever could. And the thinking that making church property a gun free zone somehow makes church property a safer place ranks right up there with the thinking that moving a pervert away from one or more victims towards another group of potential victims will somehow maybe make the abuse stop.
I agree, that is funny. The next rule could be a no parking sign stating you can not park your Nuclear submarine in the loading zone behind the rectory that you would use to carry said nuclear weapon to the parish.
