Just breaking:
SCOTUS Justice Kennedy just stayed last weeks 9th Circus ruling on the Trump Travel Ban which would require the government to allow refugees covered by resettlement agreements to enter the United States.
The DOJ did not ask for a review of the relationship issue, only that covering resettlement agreements.

“Temporary halt. “
That’s what a “stay” is. But it’s in place until the entire SCOTUS can rule, and it’s quite likely that that ruling would uphold Trump’s authority to have the ban.
Smack down!
Different subject:
I hope that Paul Nehlen beats the hell out of paulryan in the WI primary, but if he doesn't, I will donate to any demonRAT that runs against ryan.
IIRC, it’s supposed to go before the court today.
I think they are basically saying to the 9th, “Hey guys, we get that he annoys you, but you’ve had your fun and the rule of law and constitution really do have some weight here.
And at the end of the day, we don’t want to look as stupid as you do.
Of course they are going to overturn it. They are seeing the left implode by taking untenable positions on this stuff. They don’t want to be lumped in with them when the hammer comes down. And it will.
Justice Kennedy must have gotten up on the conservative side of his bed this morning.....
I forgot to add, that is why the government tries to eliminate small businesses. They are run by people with a lot more freedom to be “loose canons”. Replace them with the Wal-Marts. The Lowes. The McDonalds. Reduce the owner of the hardware store to a manager of a Lowes location. But if he steps out of line, he’s out of a job.
Interesting comment, but I don’t quite understand it.
Remember Joe the Plumber? He owned his own business. He had the courage to lay it on the line to Obama and there was an effort to destroy his business. But the lesson is more powerful than that.
If he had been an employee of a national chain of plumbers, he would have been terminated the next day. They don’t want bad publicity and all that. And the government can pressure them as well.
But a private business owner can do and say what he wants, and if he has the customer base that agrees with him, it will actually increase business. And the key is that it is a SMALL business. It does “local” work or background work (e.g. selling on ebay or Amazon).
But when you work for a large business, you have to be careful what you say or do, even on FaceBook. You can find yourself without means to support yourself. It shuts people up.
This is why our government - especially the D side - is hostile to small business. They want a world of large corporations were all human beings earn their living in a way that precludes them from rocking the boat - if they want to keep a roof over their head.
This is a much more “civilized” way of controlling the masses than the old soviet measures. It has the appearance of giving freedom - as long as you don’t use it.
Try and start a business like trucking today. It is almost impossible for the little guy anymore because of all the rules, regulations and all the regulatory authorities you have to answer to and deal with their conflicting rules. You need to be a big company with its own law department to succeede or a genius who loves reading law.
That is a very perceptive comment. You might want to fish that out and Pat is as a vanity
Great post!
OK, but what does that have to do with the Supreme Court issuing a stay of the 9th Circuit’s order?
I can retire in just over two years. I confess that it becomes more and more obvious to me that what the government hates is us old guys that:
1. remember how it used to be.
2. Are living on retirement and are not beholdin’ to anyone.
3. Can say whatever we want.
4. Don’t care about the consequences because we have one foot in the grave anyway (at least, that is how Paul told us to live).
It always cracks me up when people ask if you “love” america. I don’t. Not what it is today. Look at what we do around the world. Look at our forms of entertainment. Look at how we eat. Look at the size of our prison population. Look at the way we talk to each other on the internet and social media when we don’t agree. Look at how we live.
Look at america and americans as though it is not your country, but this other place across the ocean. It’s easy to see that we’ve fallen a great distance.
I love what america stands for - but what it is today? I’m reminded of the letters to the seven churches in the beginning of Revelation.
The Constitution is explicit......................
I was digressing. It was part and parcel to a previous post. :-)
