Australia same-sex marriage vote: PM comes out for Yes
BBC News ^ | 10th September 2017 | BBC News

Australian political leaders, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, have come out in support of a campaign for same-sex marriage. More than 20,000 people gathered in Sydney to campaign ahead of a non-binding postal vote on changing Australia's marriage act. Mr Turnbull made a surprise appearance and speech at the launch of the New South Wales Yes campaign. Opposition leader Bill Shorten then addressed the crowd at the main rally. The non-binding vote to gauge support for changing Australia's Marriage Act will be sent out from 12 September, with a result expected in November.

The survey will not have the power to legalise same-sex marriage but it could lead to a vote in parliament if the majority of Australians support the change. The postal plebiscite has been criticised by opponents as an unnecessary delay in resolving the debate, which they say could be settled immediately in parliament.

The Prime Minister previously said he would personally be voting in favour of same-sex marriage, but has not publicly campaigned prior to the surprise speech on Sunday. "Throughout my public life I've sought to ensure same-sex couples are not discriminated against and their entitlements, be it in respect of medical benefits, taxation, superannuation or employment, are no different to those afforded to heterosexual couples. Why then shouldn't those same rights now be extended to marriage?" Mr Turnbull pointed out that 23 other countries had already legalised same-sex marriage.

"In any one of those nations, has the sky fallen in? Has life as we know it come to a halt? Has traditional marriage as we know it been undermined? The answer is no," he said. Meanwhile, Mr Shorten, who is the leader of the Australian Labor Party, told campaigners he anticipated the yes vote to win in the postal survey.

At least they’re doing it democratically in their legislature rather than having it shoved down their throats by a court.

This puff piece sounds as if these Australian politicos are taking some “courageous” stand for homosexual marriage.

In today’s world, the true courage is being against homosexual marriage.

See what happens to any prominent public figure in this day and age, who would stand for traditional marriage. It doesn’t happen.

Sadly to me, the liberals have won the battle over homosexual marriage. Now they have moved the goal posts, and we get to move on to transgender bathroom and baking gay wedding cakes as major issues.

There’s a town near Canberra, Australia....Deakin...that has a population of 3,000. The local ratio of women to men is 130 women to 100 men. Finding a single guy for a woman might get to being more difficult.

To hear the media spin it, the US was the last hold out outside of Communist and Islamist nations.

All the dirtbag politicians support perversion in all its forms—Australia is so far gone the PM dared to go public with his views.

The goal posts are going to be moved even further than you suggest. Lowering the age of consent to 10 or 12 will be next, in essence eliminated most laws against pedophilia.
And for those who oppose lower the age will be called
pedophilephobic.

Government is all about priorities.

I find it on one hand nauseating, but I am amazed how the Gaystapo outmaneuvers all political and social movements and are outnumbered in society by 1000 to one if not much more. The media would make us think half of all populations are gayed up. The Leftist Gaystapo, their accessories of the LGBTXYZ alphabet alliance and sycophants are absolutely rapidly ruining society.

Because they made it cool to be queer and that thinking otherwise is “hate”.

I don’t think anyone was expecting anything less from the RINO CINO PM Malcolm Turnbull.

He is truly the Mitt Romney-John McCain of his country.

I read a BBC story last week about a ‘gun amnesty’ in Australia with its strict gun laws where 26,000 firearms of various types were turned in.

I’m sure all the terrorists and crooks showed up to comply with the law.......sarc

If you oppose gay marriage, the soft dictatorship moves in on you.

You lose your job like the elected Chief Justice and soon to be next US Senator from Alabama, Roy Moore.

The moving of the goal posts is a key problem, in my opinion.

Some snarky liberals have said, to paraphrase, life goes on, nothing changed in your lives, as homosexual marriage was imposed on America. We’re going to look back and say what was the big deal, etc. to paraphrase.

The big deal is that it sets the stage for more and more “normalization” if you will, of more extreme behaviors and ideas.

for example, I’ve heard that some homosexual oriented political activists have said, that they eventually want to see group marriage, with any number of partners, any sex of partners. But before they could push for that, they had to establish and normalize monogamous homosexual marriage first.

One thing leads to another. One thing sets the stage for another.

And off topic, but what’s with these “Gay Straight Alliance” clubs in schools nowadays? My God, such would not have been permitted back in my day. Why do we need clubs in school which revolve around sexual identity type issues in the first place? And are the adults who run these “gay straight” alliances clubs merely seeking to “educate” young people about sexual identity, as opposed to “recruitment”?

But even if it’s all about education, it still begs the questions as to why schools allow anything to do with sexuality in the first place.

And when did it become cool to be gay?

It’s one thing to say, ok, we will be tolerant of alternative lifestyles and all that. It’s quite different to actively promote such lifestyles.

I never understood how the liberals were able to equate opposition to liberal views as “hate”.

I opposed and still opposed homosexual marriage, but don’t hate anyone.

How is it that you hate if you oppose liberals? They do this on many issues, not just gay related issues.

The big business and big government forces are united in support of it, the people who control the major political parties with their money.

In a totalitarian system, the government controls everything that could threaten its unlimited power including religious activities.
