MIAMI (FOX 13) - Many Floridians spent time this week boarding up their homes and securing their valuables ahead of Hurricane Irma.
Everyone's priorities have been different, as was the case for a Miami husband and wife when it came to the husband's prized 1987 Nissan 300 ZX.
Mia-Lee Acea's husband was not about to let a little storm destroy his beloved hobby car, which is in the middle of a restoration.
While in the process of securing their home before the storm, Acea says her husband asked if he could put his car in their living room.
Wanting to offer a compromise, she told him he could put the car in the living room if it would fit through their sliding glass doors.
"We always try to meet halfway with his hobbies," she told FOX 13 News. "So I figured agreeing to let him cover the car inside the house was a win for me, but he outsmarted me."
Acea says she walked upstairs to work with some shutters. When she came back down, she discovered her husband had removed and dismantled the sliding glass doors separating their living room from their yard.
She took out her phone and started recording video.
Before removing the doors, it's easy to see why Acea offered this compromise. The opening would not have been wide enough to accommodate the car. But once the door was removed, her husband had plenty of room to fit through.
He even put down a plastic tarp to protect the floor, (or maybe his tires).
Another video shows Acea's husband covering the car with the plastic, in the middle of their living room.
But after the car was inside and secure, her husband returned the door and marveled at his new in-house entertainment.
"The glass door was put right back in place," Acea said. "We shuttered the remainder of the house and headed to a family members place till the storm is over."
It's clear the two have a strong understanding of each other.
"We had some good laughs," she said. "This is one to laugh about later. Hopefully, he doesn't leave it as furniture once this blows over."
VIDEO VERY FUNNY:

That is a man with a plan. I have no doubt he will get his family through the hurricane safely and even possibly in comfort. A+ dude, and picked a good wife to boot.
Don’t be so sure. My wife would have helped. ;-) There are many good women. Most men just don’t pick wisely.
That’s great
True that
Children all around and she can’t stop with the F-words. In the video, it’s more clear than the story that she isn’t happy with the deal she made.
Sigh. Married guys have to “ask” to do things.
If it was her little convertible there’d be no asking. She’d just say take the doors off and put it in the house.
A 300ZX? I could understand a Supra or certain kinds of Mustangs or Camaros.
>> Married guys have to ask to do things.
Is that an objection, or an admission of reality?
Those are not mutually exclusive.
LOL... of course.
Married guys have to ask to do things.
I would have to ask to sleep with another woman. Answer would be no. Other than that I don’t have to ask. You did not choose wisely... ;-)
Hate to tell you, but the Z cars, ALL the pre-hiatus Z cars, have achieved classic status. They’d done so before the 350Z came out - there are large clubs devoted to them.
Among other firsts, they were the first Japanese model line to routinely stomp Corvettes in performance. And since you refer to the Supras - the only US market rival the Mk IV Supra actually had in its price range was... the Z31 300ZX TT.
This was one of the commercials Nissan ran when they brought out the 350Z after the hiatus; they acknowledge the support of the owners and their prior classic Zs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsonFnPHyUQ
He should have at least parked it so it faced the TV. In-Home Drive In Movies!
How cool would that be?
There are any number of OBX residents who do this, but more common is a temporary ramp to get the front end up on a porch to keep the engine and interior from being submerged. I’ve seen ramps on cinderblocks with cars or trucks on them, on the side of the house sheltered from wind before, too, on Ocracoke.
That looks like a concrete slab floor there, though, so if there’s flooding the first floor is not raised above grade much at all. Not much benefit for his hobby car, if he’s worried about flooding in their locale.
Okay, this isn’t the guy who said both he and his car were on the eighth floor.
1987 Nissan is a prized car?
Car collecting certainly has changed, I guess.
>>If it was her little convertible thered be no asking. Shed just say take the doors off and put it in the house.
Sounds like my project manager who makes such complicated requests that sound as if they can be done in 2 minutes (and so 10 more are fired off in an hour with an expected completion by end of business day).
(And no, they don’t get completed in that time frame. Hardware is sent off to another lab where it will sit for a day or two for the mods that won’t make any difference to the results.)
