I was there AF myself. Spent two weeks cleaning up the graveyards and the homes.
Me and a guy from West VA driving around in his truck with AF chainsaws. I flew in from MEM on the first flight. Airport was a mess.
Base was damaged but many of us took to civilian operation.
I don’t like going in tall buildings, either.

It seems to me that even if you rode it out, you might be stuck there quite awhile, and/or have some kind of emergency for which help would be unavailable or unable to reach you. Interesting article:

Thanks metmom. So would the danger be that you could be blown out the window? Again, if you lay on the floor up against the far wall or in a hall even of the high rise......it might be ok. No? Just hold on to something and ride it out?
