The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

Yep. Even though Mom sold her condo 29 JUL 17, she still gets automated phone calls and text to evacuate inland. One call said we are shutting down power.....and said land lines should work. .....Mom is in Little Rock, AR. I told her to NOT evacuate back down to FL :)
“I am terrified of heights. A few years ago we went over Bear Tooth Pass in northwest Montana. “
I would have done what you did. Horrifying.
I had such an anxiety attack on a high hairpin turn on a mountain in Norway a woman on the bus asked if I’d like a valium——I didn’t even know her—and I took it.:-)

Hammer cuba until it gets a clue.
>Havana now getting slammed.
Music to my anti-communist ears.
I've been saying it! Ya'll didn't listen! AL and MS needs to evacuate now before the aliens Hurrican come git 'em!
We are sisters with different mothers, Rushmore Rocks. Although I don’t think I’ve ever tossed my cookies, I’ve practically had heart attacks. There are bridges I WILL NOT GO ON. Even as a passenger. There is a bridge over the Columbia River at Astoria OR and just seeing it made me somewhat sick.
Mine, too
My father-in-law had a house on Clearwater Beach that his widow sold 2 years ago. My wife and sister-in-law inherited a house in Crystal River on the convergence of 2 canals 3 mile from the Gulf and also sold it 2 years ago. Both are targeted ground zero.
If Irma goes into the Gulf, it will flood the Miss. river like never before. That is just common sense knowledge.

The genius funneled water from the roof into 10000 gallon tanks cement tanks at base of bldg
Amazing. Stayed a week
Anyhow for those still there realize only on the really big islands do you have any chance if your staying
Mangroves are quite amazing as well when a big one gets you unexpected
For me it’s not height so much as high edges. Airplane, no problem. Edge of the garage roof...uh oh. Same thing on narrow mountain roads. And something like that glass-floored thing that sticks out over the Grand Canyon? Fergetaboutit!
That’s how I felt. Mr.RR laughed at me until he saw my fear, then was quite sympathetic.
Look at post #513. Hurricanes don’t operate on their own they are directed by other atmospheric conditions. See that huge high pressure front in post #513 coming down to back off Irma from heading far west across the Gulf?
Check how the NW shearing gives way as an intense line goes through Fort Myers.
