Hurricane Irma Live Thread III
NHC/NOAA ^ | NHC/NOAA | NHC/NOAA

The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.

Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

BunnySlip.

While that may be entirely true in California, I have had an earthquake rider in Missouri on two properties (one within 120 mi of New Madrid) and in Arizona and the rider is not prohibitive.

Seeing how difficult it is to model a hurricane and make short-term predictions using real-time data from satellites, ..... exemplifies why long term predictions on climate change (involving many more unknowns and variables) are very difficult to get right.

100% agree. Modelers minimize things that are hard (or unknown) like.. "clouds". The real world is quite complicated. More so than even our brightest modelers.

Building in flood prone areas is just asking for trouble. The dangers of flooding mostly involve people living in dangerous places.

Depends on the policy, most have some type of ALE or Additional Living Expense for being out of your home. Some policies ALE covers only after the home is damaged but some do cover evacuations before a catastrophe.

True.

Being covered and being paid are two different things, as people in Homestead, FL learned.

One of these days, a reporter is going to be killed by flying debris - the media will go ballistic with grief & hype.

Here is my latest VIDEO recorded at 10:20 AM today in Broward County. Not much has changed. Wind gusts still at about 65 mph with heavy rain. Wind direction still east to west. About all that has changed is there are more tree branches on the ground.

Thankfully we still have electricity, cable, and internet!!!

In Boca Raton, having had the eye of Wilma hit us, I can say we are getting hurricane force gusts here today. Some trees are down around town. We expect the peak in early afternoon.

I’m not surprised.

But you are not assured that you will experience a catastrophic earthquake in your lifetime. Your area is not know for killer earthquakes, hence your low premiums. For all of my 68 years, that has been drilled into me, that the “big one” is coming.

I draw some assurance that my California farming family emigrated from Germany in the mid-1800s, yet none have been injured in an earthquake.

Joe Bastardi‏Verified account @BigJoeBastardi 27m27 minutes ago I wonder if the weakening can be blamed on global warming. That co2 fairy sure is fickle. Anyone know how he or she can be reached?

Your area is not know for killer earthquakes,

Well, there was the New Madrid earthquake in 1812. Didn’t kill many because there weren’t many to kill. Thing is, earthquakes here in MO travel a lot farther than those in CAL. Supposedly the New Madrid quake caused church bells to ring in Charleston, SC.

A replay of the New Madrid quake today would likely destroy both Memphis and St. Louis—both cities with lots of very old brick structures.

lol I couldn’t take the stupid stuff being posted last night... that’s why I went to bed.

Kudos to you for setting them straight.

And, THANKS for the excellent graphics. I see many of them on the other sites, but... I’m not great at posting such graphics on this site.
