I’m not surprised.

But you are not assured that you will experience a catastrophic earthquake in your lifetime. Your area is not know for killer earthquakes, hence your low premiums. For all of my 68 years, that has been drilled into me, that the “big one” is coming.

I draw some assurance that my California farming family emigrated from Germany in the mid-1800s, yet none have been injured in an earthquake.

Well, there was the New Madrid earthquake in 1812. Didn’t kill many because there weren’t many to kill. Thing is, earthquakes here in MO travel a lot farther than those in CAL. Supposedly the New Madrid quake caused church bells to ring in Charleston, SC.

A replay of the New Madrid quake today would likely destroy both Memphis and St. Louis—both cities with lots of very old brick structures.
