The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

It can’t be.
It’s in the direct line.
You are probably far enough inland that the storm surge will not be an issue.
God speed.
My husband just said, “just once I’d like to see one of these storm hero reporters be hit by a flying object. Not to kill him or anything, just knock him unconscious.”
If you knew my c-a-l-m, unflappable husband ... this is totally out of character.
Am I right, Mayflower Madam?
“CUDJOE KEY”
Every time I see that name I think of a rabid St. Bernard.
Have some of these idiots never seen what tornado force winds can do with loose objects?
All he needs to do is get impaled by a piece of wood and it’s over for him. If it doesn’t get him in the vitals, he’ll die a long painful death while waiting for the storm to abate and someone to rescue his sorry butt.
All he’s proving is that there are stupid idiots out there all over the place.
I’m with him on that one.
The answer to that: "If the President had that much 'juice'...he would have kept it there."
A lot of this is just filler between updates from the National Hurricane Center. I just told the TV (a weather Channel guy) “Ok we get it. The wind is blowing really hard”.
Those little Key Deer are gonna come up short in the storm surge.
Not joking either.
Another reason why tv is a dead medium. I just watched a kid with a periscope from Marathon Key.It was a hell of a lot more interesting than the weather guy in Miami
I don’t get it eather. Not unusual for pine straw to be driven through palm trees ala Camille.
No idea about Anna Maria Island. They will get it before us. It seems the storm will change to a Cat 3 somewhere near Tampa but no one knows just where. It is just starting to steady rain here and a bit of wind.
The idiot should realize that if you have to tie yourself to a tree to stay put, the human body is NOT capable of handling it.
Cow....
“Food”
Looks to me like Cud Chew Key or Kudzu Key—but I grew up on a farm.
“I keep hearing about Naples, and then Tampa Bay but they gloss right over Sarasota/Bradenton. Are they implying Sarasota/Bradenton will be spared?”
Not that I can hear on the local news. My parents are at my house in Clearwater from Sarasota. Their wind is expected to be in the 110 MPH range while here in Tampa Bay area it will “only” be 90ish.
Great advice! It’ll wind up in the next county otherwise.
>>Throw it in their pool.
YES!!
