The judge overseeing the bribery trial of Sen. Robert Menendez ripped into prosecutors Thursday for trying to focus on what he called “tabloid’’ details — an unusual description for dry testimony about a series of emails about a hotel reservation.

U.S. District Judge William Walls stopped testimony for 20 minutes in which he tongue-lashed prosecutors for their painstaking recounting of emails used to book a luxury hotel in Paris for the New Jersey Democrat in 2010. The three-day hotel stay is a central part of the Justice Department’s case.

No need to slam drudge. It’s childish and stupid. Almost no one is covering this trial. Drudge is an aggragator. If others aren’t covering it it isn’t going to appear.

That’s what I’m reading between the lines too. Apparently this judge has already made up his mind about guilt or innocence and doesn’t care. He’s going to find a reason to dismiss the case and find Menendez innocent.

The fact is Menendez probably didn’t do anything any worse than most pols do. He just happened to get caught or pissed off someone so they had someone look into him with a fine tooth comb.

I’m no fan of this guy but there are a much bigger fish to fry if they really wanted to get serious about prosecuting pols starting with obama.

POLITICO revealed that Dr Melgen assiduously courted President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, but that Melgen was unhappy with the return on his campaign donation "investments."

After meeting briefly with Obama at a 2010 fundraiser that Dr Melgen paid $30,400 to co-host, the eye doctor complained that “Obama didn’t even give him the time of day,” according to a source who travels in the same Miami political circles as Melgen.

The source said Melgen also expressed frustration that he couldn’t take his concerns about his questionable Medicare billing practices directly to Obama’s Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius.

“He was ranting about HHS and Sebelius not understanding and not wanting to listen to him and not giving him a hearing,” said the source, who did not want to be identified WRT revealing the contents of private conversations.

Menendez intervened to assist the eye doctor (currently incarcerated) in a separate, stalled business contract involving port security.

FACTS ON FILE---Sen Menendez abused his position---he used US govt authority and govt resources...... and his privileged Senate position...... to force approval of Dr Melgen's lucrative port cargo deal into fruition. The so-called "port security” deal means big bucks.

(NOTE earlier reports say Central America drug cartels smuggle drugs into the US undetected ---- secreted in Dominican port cargo containers without supervision).
