The making of a climate skeptic – at University

The class was languid, most kids were on their phones, or surfing Facebook on their laptops. I sat with my notebook open in front of me, empty except for the lecture title at the top of the page. The professor put a slide up on the projector showing a chart relating CO2 and temperature over the course of a few million years, the one we’ve all seen by now. The CO2 curve lags after the Temperature one, and anyone’s first reading of the chart would probably be that temperature is driving the CO2 changes, not the other way around, if there is any trend at all. I perked up slightly, it was new for a professor to show alternate data, and looked around expectantly at other students, waiting for some kind of reaction—confusion, frowns, anything to show they’re seeing something that fights what we’ve been told since elementary school. I saw a few yawns, dull stares, people on their phones, though one loud girl who was a religious global warming fanatic was glaring at the slide, slouching in her seat so her hand could pet her (dubiously trained) service dog.

Besides her, no one cared, and certainly I was the only one who glanced up in surprise when our professor began to talk about the chart as if it didn’t matter, something like “This trend suggests the opposite of what we know to be true” before moving on.

At last we have a full explanation:

t’s my 5th year since heading west for my engineering degree.

Ah. An engineer. Somebody who actually believes in evidence and objective truth. Someone who doesn't believe there is a Critical Engineering where tensile strength is a patriarchal social construct and that a bridge made of cardboard is as strong as one of steel because that's "fairer" to cardboard. Before this country's intellectual madness is finished we'll be running snatch teams to evacuate this one from the re-education camps.

Watched part of a movie or television show from back in the early 90s a few days ago. It was a propaganda love fest.

I don’t remember the title now.

There were three or four major whoppers in just a few minutes of the presentation.

If the global warming advocate’s predictions were coming true, people would believe them.

A couple of weeks ago there was a solar eclipse which was predicted long ago and came true on schedule. That’s because the movements of the earth, sun, and moon are well known. But when Algore tells us over and over and over again that we’re all going to be underwater soon, but never comes true, they have no credibility except in their own echo chamber.

With global warming, “researchers” get what they want: other people’s money to spend on their “study”, and the Democrats get what they what: control over our lives.

The teacher was right to say the student was wrong to say polar bears can swim 60 miles.

They can swim well over 200 miles. Polar bears are nearly aquatic mammals, like seals or sea lions.

“Global Warming - Climate Change” world biggest hoax and scam.
Just like Obama causing Global Flooding by pissing in the ocean.
That much can humans contribute.
Elaborate scam to screw off taxpayers off their money!

Earth climate and changes are dependent on Sun’s and Sunspots activity supplying 99.99% of energy. Humans can do schit about it.
Volcano eruptions can produce much more distractions to climate than all humans and SUVs farting together.
CO2 is not poison, it is “food” for plants, which in turn produce Oxygen, that we need to breathe.
STOP the scam, jail all the scammers!!!
God bless and protect Mr. Trump!
MAGA!!!!

Yo 95% of scientwists:
Did you notice temperature drops when sun eclipse happened?
Was that because sun’s output was being shielded, or all the SUVs were confiscated?

I agree - good post.
It is encouraging that there are students who refuse to be intimidated into following the herd - when the data points in another direction. And students willing to think - and not just regurgitate. Good for her - and I hope there are many more like her.

I read recently about a climate paper that concluded that the temperature of a planet is 99% dictated by the size of the atmosphere, the gravity of the planet, and distance from the Sun. Almost nothing else matters.

Then went on to show his this holds true for other planets and that none of our “climate models” seem to work for those.

I had a similar moment back in college. The environmental issue of the day was overpopulation, the Population Bomb and all that.

I had a far left instructor for World History 101. On the reading list she assigned a book on population that actually had raw data in it. The stats focused on Western Europe and the U.S. because they had the oldest data. When I looked at the data I saw right away that birth rates begin to fall when a country goes through industrial development. And they keep falling to the present. Of course, the author didn't care and still made the alarmist arguments. Just like Al Gore putting the ice core data that refutes AGW into his movie.

I could see way back in the 70's that there was no population bomb to explode and that Europe's birth rate was plunging toward replacement levels and possibly below.

The ocean is a reservior of dissolved CO2: warmer water releases it, colder water absorbs it. Opposite to that?

I had that moment in the fall of 1980 when the Poli Sci prof was talking about “workers controlling the means of production.” It was instantly obvious he’d never spent a day in the real world. Having worked commercial construction all summer, I knew turning the means of production to the guys at Rome Builders was a bad idea.

It was apparent to me that guys like Prof. Hansen saw a political means to seize control over economic assets they had no idea how to create or operate. It was theft, and as usual, the thief was going to trash the goods he stole.

I bet your professor could not in his wildest dreams imagine that in the future "science" would mandate that only socialism could reduce the Earth's temperature and avert a climate crisis.

There has been so much junk science since the WWI and WWII era I often reflect on the severe shock that era delivered to the West and the effects we are still feeling in all the phony scientific and political solutions people grasp at to try to avert the next war, which will probably come sooner due to their foolishness.
