SALT LAKE CITY Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill has requested the FBIs assistance in the investigation into the arrest of a Utah nurse who refused to allow a blood draw from an unconscious patient without following proper procedure.
In a statement released Thursday, Gill said his office officially requested the FBI investigate: any and all individuals involved in the chain of conduct arising from the incident at the University of Utah Hospital on July 26, 2017 for any Civil Rights Violations under the color of authority.
Gill said he requested the FBIs help due to events beyond a mere criminal investigation.

I couldn’t agree more, and there were other LEOs standing there besides that turkey that deserve to be nailed.
"Payne has also been fired from his part-time job as a paramedic following comments he made on the video about taking transient patients to the hospital as retaliation."
Yep. It seems Payne has some real problems mentally, hopefully he gets help before and after he’s unemployed.
I do agree the Lieutenant is going down with the LE that arrested the nurse. I do hope those up the food chain will have to answer some tough questions. These two had some reason to believe they could get away with this. Those that stood around watching also had reason to think it was acceptable behavior.
The Chief of Police acted like he didn’t know about this incident until the video was released. If that is true he is either incompetent with others actually in charge of the department or he is also a bird of a feather with the rest of the flock of black sheep.
I have heard of entire police departments that were rotten to the core, I just have a hard time believing that I guess.
That hospital needs to fire their entire police department, and pay enough to get real police officers. I can only imagine what those marshmallow boys would do if a hyped up drug addict or MS13 erupted in the ER. I bet those smug boys that took the side of the SLCPD would flee for their lives.
Yes that was on the long version of the video of the nurse arrest that is out there. There is a lot of nothing on that long video, several minutes of everyone just standing around- but several interesting tidbits. I used my earphones and caught some interesting things being said.
18 U.S. Code § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law US Code
Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.
The medical staff ought to hand out pussy hats to the University cops at the hospital and get it on you tube.
Old fashioned shame and ridicule are powerful weapons.
They struck me as the sort that would feel no shame or ridicule if they were wearing pussy hats.
IMO that should be new required head gear for all of them that watched this and did nothing. Everyone needs to be on notice they are not going to do their jobs if needed even if they feel no shame.
.
If the detective had an accomplice assist him, they both can get 30 years hard Federal time.

This rat’s nest goes beyond the SLC police dept. The request for the blood draw came from the Logan P.D., the jurisdiction where the crash occurred as a result of a high-speed police pursuit. They were clearly looking for some way to deflect the responsibility for this deadly crash away from the pursuing police officers. The person they were chasing died immediately when he crossed the center line and center-punched the semi-truck driven by William Gray. The truck erupted in flames. Gray was badly burned, unconscious, and in critical condition when he was taken to the burn unit in Salt Lake City. Now, Logan Police Chief admits Mr. Gray was a victim in this crash and was never suspected of having any responsibility for it. Begs the question - why did police ‘NEED” a blood sample from the VICTIM of this crash? Seems to me that two police jurisdictions are trying to cover the asses of more than a few bad cops? Only way to really clear the air between the police and the community is to be as thoroughly aggressive as possible in investigating the cops’ actions. Since the main offender also made bonehead, egotistical statements that got him fired from his other job, he’s an easy one to burn for effect. They may also have decided that some clique of them have been doing crap for a while and actually want to clean it up.
30 years would be a fine example to the others that you don’t use your badge and your authority to crap all over the Constitution and beat up nurses and then expect to get away with it.
.
It won’t happen though.
I would not be so sure of that. When the DA for Officer Payne’s county calls in the FBI to do an investigation instead of defending the officer like you’d expect then I’d say Officer Payne is at some point going to be referred to as ‘Inmate Payne’.
.
At the very least he should be an unemployed former cop with a felony assault conviction.
We can’t have idiots like that running around in uniforms and carrying guns.
.
Agreed. I’m still very troubled by the other cops who were present when the anger monkey went berserk and attacked the nurse. Why didn’t they do anything?
They need to be fired, too.
The truck driver / reserve police officer has passed away.
