Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

Dude, get a life. According to you, your God is killing innocent people just to punish a few, you are a sick individual.
Hit the road, Jack.
A mean looking beast with two evil eyes!:(
You would think the authorities would want garbage collected before the storm hits .
Hit the abuse button on you pal. If you can’t play by the rules, buh-bye!
Did exactly that during Hurricane Fran! Had a pile of cat poop wadded into a paper towel before I tossed it over my shoulder. I figure it ended up a few blocks away.
Truly...”an incomprehensible storm” -— yet all in its path are forced to make the incomprehensible comprehensible in order to make plans.
I’ve had concern and prayers for those in Fla, but now adding those outside of Fla who may be less thoughtful of the enormity of this beast.
PS and for what it’s worth: Per NautiNurse latest post:
2. Severe hurricane conditions are expected over portions of the Florida peninsula and the Florida Keys beginning late Saturday. Irma could make landfall in southern Florida as a dangerous major hurricane,
Note that Bastardi has hurricane conditions “arriving on the south coast of Fla probably around noon”
Now why would government folks want to do the work once before the storm, and then again after it? Just let it blow all around, and clean it up afterwards. It will all mix in with the demolished homes in a few days. (Tongue in cheek)
Whole lot of retardation gong on round they’re!!
The decision to stay or bug out will happen at 9:00 AM Saturday.
That’s wind , not flood, and then by that time the contraflow will be in effect.
We are so screwed.
“But this storm seems so unpredictable.”
Actually, it has been almost perfectly predictable, up through now. What happens in the near future, especially involving the turn and thereafter, may be less so.
That’s how I look at it too. The screeching right turn coming up Saturday night is the only thing straining predictability.
I saw that on the forum yesterday. I thought it was very apropos.
Per local weather guys, Orlando looking at 85-100 mph with higher gusts Sunday night.
That’s my third favorite thing about Chicago. 1, Gino’s deep-dish pizza, 2 the snow, 3 the wind keeping the trash in the lake. That’s about it, actually.
Levity...
In 1920's land boom: An Iowa man once came to Florida after buying a plot of land and, after having seen what he had purchased, said I have bought land by the acre, and I have bought land by the foot; but, by God, I have never before bought land by the gallon.
Schools closed Friday AND Monday - even up here in little old Santa Rosa County.
Here is a map showing projected power outages
I would tend to agree with you, except we have witnessed a big, powerful storm do exactly that before. Does anyone remember which storm that was that essentially turned on a dime?
