Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

I have Irma’s in my family. The name fits.
A high school friend has decided to ride it out North of Miami. His sister was begging him to drive back to Nebraska, but he insists on riding it out.
Hope I hear from him again
Samaritans purse. It’s the only one I will donate to
A basement in Florida is a submarine.
Most of the stores are already out of all those items. If you don’t have them, can’t get them. Pray! Then think ahead for the next storm. Not trying to be a smart Alec. The prep list is a little late. Should have been posted 3 days ago when almost no one cared.
Precisely.
God is in control of everything. He does allow things that are bad to happen in our lives with the sole intent for us to turn to Him. Make no mistake though, God’s in this and we should all heed the message.
We (as a nation) don’t kill babies and applaud homosexual lifestyles without repercussions.
To be clear, this is not judgement; judgement day has not come but He is calling us and He does it through difficulties, trials and tribulation!
Riders on the Storm.
I just chatted with a couple who evacuated from Miami. Husband said the drive across Alligator Alley was a breeze. Made excellent time. Only problem was getting gasoline.
((((Hugs))))
They’ve done the reverse-flow thing in the past on the Turnpike, and may do so again tomorrow (though I’m not seeing any announcements about that so far)... there are few arterial roads down there, so any equipment that needs to be staged has to use I-95 or the Turnpike (or Alligator alley, I suppose).
But yeah - they learned that trick back with Andrew.
The only thing I can think of are supply/logistic/emergency routes. A lot of people are still trying to get to the highway/low on gas to even begin “the march”.
Good....I’m glad to hear that. The vids that Fox was showing were from daytime.
I’m waiting to hear from family in Orlando, to see what they’re going to do...stay/go.
A friend from Florida has been driving 12 hours up 75 and just reached the Ga state line an hour ago.
One thing that _has_ been done on the major Fla highways is that tolls have been suspended and and construction barriers have been cleared. So there’s something, I guess.
Not only true, but LOL to boot :-))
Thanks again for the explanation. I mean that sincerely.
I apologize that I often let my cynicism get the better of me. I guess I usually think it’s easier to predict something more accurately when it’s a couple of days away, versus when it’s 5 days or a week out. Forget about 20 or 30 years like the “experts” want to tell us about global warming or climate change or whatever the nom du jour is.
Look up Mercy Chefs. They so far have provided over 120,000 free hot meals to Harvey victims. Good people. Low overhead.
Where did she start?
Another ping to specific preparation suggestions.
