Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. “If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, we’ll gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... “If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail — it’s a secure shelter.” Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

Once it got over the Cuban barrier island is slide westward. Now sliding West over barrier islands while touching the coast. Devastation there with a Cat 5. Official forecast now say tracking off western peninsula coastline due to westward shifting.
No, the experts have an interest in telling people just how bad this can be.
They want it to prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this hurricane was caused by global warming. They are invested in it reputation-wise.
They cannot have a hurricane be caused by weather patterns, the sun, etc.

Yep. According to the latest NHC track and forecast, it’s going to go right over our heads still packing 60 MPH winds. The local Walmart here was cleaned full out of Vienna sausages and bottled water today. LOL I’m not seeing a catastrophe here on the AL/GA line, but we did stock up on several cases of water, non-perishables, candles, and lamp oil. And she’s grabbing a generator from work tomorrow. Just in case.

Oops. Those are not Cuban barrier islands. They are the Cuban Keys. So a cat 5 is sliding right over the Cuban Keys. Which travel WNW. But the Keys have a lock on Irma for now.
Correct. Although this close to landfall, the predictions get closer to the eventual reality.

You have to realize. If the track is 30 miles west of Orlando, or 30 miles east, the storm is 45 miles wide, and what is left of the eyewall will still be hitting it harder than Charlie in 2004.
