In the wake of Labor Day, there might be at least one union we want to bid farewell to.
The California Teachers Association (CTA) does little to protect its most vulnerable members, former CTA member Rebecca Friedrichs averred in an appearance at the Heritage Foundation last month. Friedrichs is currently a fellow at the State Policy Network.
When novice teachers get laid off under the "last in, first out" rules that the unions pressed for, the CTA does nothing more than show these unemployed teachers how to file for unemployment benefits. Moreover, the smallest portion of the union dues that are extracted from the paychecks of California teachers stay locally; "Fifty percent goes to the state, 30 percent to the national headquarters, only 20 percent stays local."
Moreover, even those proportions are more likely to go to political campaigns than collective bargaining efforts. When Friedrichs sued the CTA in a case that went all the way to the U. S. Supreme Court, "unions admitted in arguments that all collective bargaining money is political," she recalled.
Moreover, although by law employees can get reimbursed for that portion of their dues that do not go toward collective bargaining, the teachers' unions make it hard to do so.

Government workers at all levels, city, county, state or federal, should not be allowed to unionize.
Even FDR would not allow it in his day.................
I agree with that.
Even FDR recognized the dangers inherent in government unions.....................and he was correct..............
A government union worker, is an adversary of every citizen.
When his union leadership negotiates, they are in a hostile position to every citizen. The government is representing us in those negotiations.
Sorry, but that makes the union leadership and their union members adversaries of our nation. That should not be allowed.
Any local or regional government union and workers violate the same principle.
The unions seek to take a superior position to all other citizen.
No.
This is one aspect of FDR I could respect.
All Americans have rights because of one union, the Union of the United States. Any other union cannot infer rights, it can only offer bennifits gained from employers by collective bargaining.
This comes at a cost that is not only financial but measurable in freedom. A craftsman is poorly served by having his pride in excellence thrown in the collective pool and lost in the bargain for the whole.
Unions are for the average man who desires only to stay on his side of the bell curve and is willing to pay others to be his masters rather than live to the fullest.
Unions like the socialism that spawns them is an unjust failed system.
Unions may have been necessary in the 1880’s or 90’s, but, when labor made its connection to the Bolshekratic Party, who could put unions rules into law, there was no more need for unions.
Government workers at all levels, city, county, state or federal, should not be allowed to unionize.
Even FDR would not allow it in his day.................

I agree. Politicians already want to buy their votes. They don’t need a union.
No one paid by taxes should be allowed to unionize. The money collected works against the taxpayer & the union member in most cases I think.
The idea that someone can hijack an industry and force it to finance your causes or do your bidding is criminal thief plain and simple.
That the democrats receive tax payer funding via mandatory government union membership, is simple political corruption.
The party of Government has long been latterly unfairly supported by government, using the proverbial shell that is the mandatory government employee union.
My neighbor used to work for this union - very high up in the union.
She and her Husband are nice folks, but I cannot speak a word of politics or real world life to them as they are CRAZY!
They are enjoying life as a retired couple and more power to them.
