[Texas Democratic Party Chairman] Hiojosa has previously likened the voter ID requirements to Jim Crow-era tactics designed to keep Republican lawmakers in power.Critics say the Texas law and similar statutes enacted in other states were tailored to make it harder for minorities and immigrants, including black and Hispanic voters who are less likely to have the authorized IDs and tend to favor Democrats, to cast ballots.
Backers say the laws are necessary to prevent voter fraud and are no more onerous than the requirements imposed by states for driving a motor vehicle.

Good call
Good.
Jim Crow-era tactics
That’s what I was gonna tell the two cops when I got pulled over last week and they wanted to see my license.
But I wasn’t in the mood to be beaten like a baby seal.
What about the ruling?
The headline says it, mostly. I couldn’t find a way to excerpt the boiler plate, so went with the last two paragraphs. Click on the link for details.
An Appeals court can overrule a MERE Judge. US SCOTUS is the only way to overturn...
US Dept of Justice is applauding the decision the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals - according to the article.
US Dept of Justice claims the Texas law is well written. That means it can be the basis for other such laws in other states.
The law would help to clamp down on illegal voting...
Of course.
The party of we must run with a fake Russia investigation for election integrity, is the party that opposes voter ID laws to help prevent voter fraud.
We own ALL of DC plus The Courts!
I don't see how Voter ID can't get passed!
Voter ID would be FREE
Plus FREE UBER ride to get Voter ID
Plus a Special 800 # for people still having problems getting ID
They will get Priority HELP in getting ID
I don't see how Democrats can still be saying we don't want minorities to be getting ID & Voting!
We will ask Republican Billionaires who want Voter ID to donate $$$ for the FREE Voter ID's & FREE UBER ride
Everything will be paid for with no Government $$$
ONE fraudulent Vote is ONE too many.
It’s hard to imagine all the complications of buying booze, cigarettes, registering cars, buying weapons and ammo, etc...all mandated to the extreme with you showing an ID. Yet, for voting...the opposite is accepted.
The chief group I think that the the Texas law put into a bind were college students who came from out-of-state and voted both in their home-state and in Texas.
If this holds....we might want to go and look at 2016 results in Texas...8,969,000 voters who came and went. My guess is that you can trim roughly 250,000 votes off the results if the ID law stands.
They are so rare, so it’s very satisfying when a federal court makes a proper ruling in a voting rights case.
Finally a judge with come neurons firing!
:-)
Wow, another court can actually read law?
Usually they stick a finger in the MSM and go with the illegal flows.
If there is a bigger bunch of hypocrites that has ever walked the face of God's green Earth, I'd like to know who they are—because the Democrat party in the United States is without equal in terms of their disingenuous advocacy for policies which clearly have no other purpose than making it easier for people to commit vote fraud.
This is why these asinine Democrat lawsuits only get upheld by partisan judges why try to legislate from the bench. Once these cases ascend the judicial ladder via the appeals process, they ultimately get reviewed by actual judges—jurists who properly apply legal theory and precedent—who then slap down these cases for the Leftist partisan tripe that they invariably are...
So that Democrat-appointed district judge got overturned? Good.
