The presidents of China and Russia agreed late on Sunday to appropriately deal with North Koreas sixth and most powerful nuclear test, Xinhua reported, with Beijing strongly condemning Pyongyangs action.
The agreement came as Chinese President Xi Jinping met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Sunday night in Xiamen, Fujian province, ahead of Mondays BRICS leaders summit.
The two leaders agreed to stick to the goal of denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and keep close communication and coordination to deal with the new situation, Xinhua said in a brief report.
US President Donald Trump responded to the test on Twitter, saying North Koreas words and actions continue to be very hostile and dangerous to the United States.
Trump said North Korea was a rogue nation which has become a great threat and embarrassment to China, which is trying to help but with little success.
South Korea is finding, as I have told them, that their talk of appeasement with North Korea will not work, they only understand one thing!
The test late Sunday morning triggered a 6.3-magnitude quake followed by a 4.6-magnitude tremor, and was felt throughout northeastern China.
The Chinese government resolutely opposes and strongly condemns this, the Chinese foreign ministry said after North Korea confirmed the test.
We urge North Korea to recognise the determination of the international community to achieve a denuclearised Korean peninsula and to return to the path of resolving conflicts through dialogue, it said adding that China will continue to implement UN sanctions against Pyongyang in comprehensive manner.
Chinas nuclear safety agency also started monitoring radiation levels in its northeastern border areas on Sunday.
At present, the automatic radiation monitoring stations in the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Shandong are functioning properly, Xinhua reported,

What is their definition of appropriate?
Appropriate would have been to dethrone Kim years ago.
They will slip a little polonium into kim’s kimchi.
Isn’t it so funny what people are expected to believe?
“China and Russia unite against North Korean nuclear test”
Curious move by them both as whatever they are doing is only done to benefit them.
NK misunderestimated China and Russia’s desire for denuclearisation.
at least it would make the kimchi taste better! LOL
China is worried the mountain under which NK has been testing these bombs is going to collapse (or is presently collapsing as indicated by second tremor) and spread radiation into China
That kimchi would be to die for. Lol!
I think China is starting to see that regime change would be in their best interest. As long as Fat Boi was just annoying the US, it was to their benefit to let him run wild. With the economic pressure Trump is putting on them, they’re starting to see things differently.
It would be, wouldn’t it?
The “H-Bomb Club” wasn’t looking for no new members, I guarantee you.
China and Russia both basically hate us and wish we were not as much of a world power. Isn’t it rather convenient for them if the US is mired in dealing with an issue like North Korea? As long as North Korea is not directly threatening China and Russia, they are just going to sit on the sidelines laughing.
All for show... Nothing more...
It is closest to the Russian border but also close to Chinese border. Much closer to the Chinese border...
But both will fight alongside them.

North Korea is run by a family dictatorship masquerading as a Communist regime. Its not the Party but the family that makes all the key decisions in North Korea.
That is why it set its Chinese and Russian allies against it. No one knows whom the unpredictable Kim will target.
Regime change in Pyongyang is in everyone’s interests.
