Video: "In reality, he defended himself. That is the reason that we have concealed carry."
An armed robber targeted a man who had just made a withdrawal from a cash machine, but the victim turned the tables.
Sierra McFatridge was out in her yard Monday night when she heard a crack of gunfire and came face to face with a robber.
"I was just outside getting my dog and then you just hear this shot, and I see this guy falling right in front of me," McFatridge said. "I didn't know where the shot came from and then he was right there. It scared me."
Police said a 51-year-old man was walking in the Jackson Park neighborhood when the robber hit him in the head.
Neighbors said the man told them he had been at an ATM up the street, and he had just withdrawn cash. He was walking home when the robber attacked.
"He was obviously following him from the bank because he knew he had money on him," McFatridge said. . . .

Editing is a lost skill.
“Editing is a lost skill.”
Dumbing down of America on display. It is why employers are having such a hard time hiring people: Illiteracy.
This is why I laugh each time some FReeper says the only valuable college majors are related to math, sciences, accounting, etc. I contend English majors still have their place.
I am one of those who believe that if you want to get a job, your best bet is to graduate college with a technical major in math, science, technology, medicine, IT. Something hard and useful with a limited number of people who can do it and are licensed/certified to do it. Not only is it easier to find work but generally it pays better and has better job advancement.
I have never said taking English in college is bad for you. All I’ve ever said is that type of major will make it difficult to get a job because your major is not something tghat translates directly and instantly into the workplace. There are millions and millions of college graduates who you have to compete with that are competent in English. Being an English major gives you a very low starting point on finding a job, let alone a good paying job. That kind of major means the job candidate better be a go getter with drive and good people skills because you are constantly going to be selling yourself and your skills.
You can be a social zero with an RN nurse license and there will still be places beating down your door to give you a job. Not so with English majors.
This mess doesn’t even qualify as an edited story.
My son-in-law graduated with an English major. He was trying to make a living writing. Then he got on as a pharmacy tech and now has state and federal certificates. He is making money and prospects in the future look brighter and brighter. He says he could have done the necessary at a Community College and not wasted so much time.
Funny, I had my heart set on being an author of pulp fiction.
My father said, “Artists and writers starve.
I became a Civil Engineer. That worked out fine. I never starved.
My brother became a music major. He starved.
It really matters what you major in at college and the harder the major the more likely you are to get a good paying job. Everybody wants an easy cake-walk major with lots of electives and no math. They all get put in more or less the same boat when it comes time to apply for a job.
At least your son-in-law saw and correct his mistake and went medical. Smart move. Pharmacy is pure job security going forward.
He and my daughter also spent a year in Peru where my grandson was born who is now a birthright citizen of Peru. He and daughter also made some useful connections while there. He is looking at the possibility of working there and while absolute pay is lower, relative comfort would be quite nice.
My brother was a music major. He played and wrote R&R music and stayed barely solvent. He also learned all about the equipment and computers that were involved in professional music. He is now the A/V department at Stetson Law. And he is actually making money with his “music” (I am not a fan) as a sideline and doing better with it than he ever did when that was his living.
That is one of the most poorly written articles that I’ve seen in a while.
For anyone who reads this article and is thinking about writing as a job, this article is a fine example of how it should NOT be done.
What a mess.
The sad part is that my brother was an EXTREMELY good jazz guitarist. But you know how that goes. That and $4 will get you a Starbucks coffee. There are just hundreds of thousands of great musicians, if not millions. How do you compete? It is all about who you know. Hence the impossibility of making a living with your art.
How many stories is this? No patience to try to figure it out....
OK - I see different dates so different stories. Got it!
I suppose for some that’s the right approach. As for my kids, I’m of the opinion college should primarily be about expanding their horizons and learning to think. I don’t believe in going to college to prepare to be an employee. I believe in creating work and wealth over getting a job. They can work for me if they ever need a job. Maybe they will want to take over my company. Who knows.
I am a technical editor. I take the product of others (engineers) and make it palatable to the end user/customer.
Lemme tell ya, writing is a lost art, and the product I work with overwhelmingly sucks red baboon butt. The foreigners at least have an excuse: They’re foreigners.
If not for poor writing skills, I would be unemployed!
