Trump 'speaks in ways that I wouldn't' on North Korea, but US must show 'strength': Ted Cruz

exas Sen. Ted Cruz said President Donald Trump "speaks in ways that I wouldn't" on North Korea but that it helps to "have a president who is strong."

The Republican senator told ABC News "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz that if North Korea's claim that it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb Sunday is true, it is "a serious escalation in their ability to commit mass acts of murder" that will spur calls for "further serious steps to prevent North Korea from using those weapons."

"North Korea right now, it’s the most dangerous place on the face of the planet," Cruz said on "This Week" Sunday. "Kim Jong Un, who’s the dictator there, he is radical, he is unpredictable, he is extreme, and he’s getting more and more dangerous weapons."

Raddatz asked Cruz about Trump's prior warning that the United States would respond with "fire and fury" to any further provocations from North Korea.

"Do you think [the president's threat] hurt or helped?" she asked.

"The president speaks in ways that I wouldn't speak, but that is his prerogative," the Texas senator said. "I do think it helps for North Korea and for China to understand that we have a president who is strong."

"I think the president is right that Kim Jong Un and other bullies only understand and respect strength, that weakness, that appeasement, encourages this action," Cruz said.

He added, "In term of what happens, listen, no rational person wants to see a military conflict with North Korea, with the nuclear weapons ... [In] almost any scenario, you're looking at tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of casualties in a matter of days.'

A, I originally supported Cruz as strongly as I coukd. B, I answered a question on this thread re lingering ill feelings toward Cruz.

Now which of us is clinging to, and refusing to let go of the primaries? Is it not you, with your insistence of dredging it all up agsin?

Note: I once mistyped ‘could.’ Now auto correct never misses a chance to replicate that typo.

Thank you, auto correct. For nothing.

Trump speaks in ways no republican politician does because all other republican politicians are pathetic spineless losers.

I can never understand what he’s saying. It’s like a cow or some farm animal chewing grain.......or something while trying to blow a bugle.

true, but 40k is typical of a medium fission device.
The old 8” howitzer round was dialable from 1k to 40k.
There even was a circular cardboard calculator to tell you what to dial the weapon to for which target and to compute danger zones for alerting troops by type ( infantry in open, infantry in buildings or cover, afv’s etc..)
Fusion devices are typically 100k minimum. most tac nukes are 60k or less and are fission devices.
Of course any nuke is a strategic weapon under our evaluations of wmd’s and our official response policy is if you use a wmd, we respond in kind. After 9/11/2001 the Bush administration asked for a military justice ruling if the use of airplanes as bombs against civilians resulting in mass casualties constituted use of a WMD. The answer was yes. Bush 43 could have nuked Afghanistan using that ruling as justification. Uncharted waters. The little crazy bastard in N Korea is playing with fire in ways he can’t imagine. Does the USA have the moral spine to prevent millions of civilian deaths in a future nuclear exchange? I hope so, because the Loco Noko doesn’t care if millions of his people die. He’s already done it via starvation.
