Defense secretary James Mattis has spoken outside the White House. We are not looking for the annihilation of North Korea, we have many options, he says.
He also said that any threat to the United States or its territories including Guam or our allies will be met with a massive military response.
I still think the “long game” with North Korea is playable. The “long game “ meaning pressure until the regime collapses. The danger point will be right before the moment of collapse. Would NK generals really want to trade the “good life” for being interned in large thick radioactive slabs of glass? All for Lil’Kim, when China could keep the “good life” going? Also China prefers the status quo, having an irritating and annoying “pet” on a string threatening to “jump the fence”. This keeps Japan & South Korea focused on their own backyards. But as all wars do begin, someone could miscalculate.
I have seen nothing that indicates the regime has any sort of reentry vehicle that can let a warhead survive from space to earth. I am pretty sure to get to the US and probably all US territories the warhead would have to leave the atmosphere. Of course he could bring it up to the west coast in a freighter, trawler etc. stay outside of the 12 mile limit do a Korean Kamikaze and set it off. It wouldn’t be as effective and the retaliation (as long as Rat isn’t in office!) would be swift effective and sure.
The next missile “test” by NK must now be assumed as a nuclear launch, and must be retaliated against as such.
True. Maybe being in the information age makes people feel that they should be informed about everything. I’m not keen on government secrecy, but some things should be kept under wraps. The public doesn’t have a right to know everything.
It would require a surprise attack on the 100,000 artillery tubes pointed at Seoul. A dozen or so large explosions should diminish the threat.
Very large explosions.
“There already is a threat.”
Right.
Seems to me they better start backing up the talk with action lest they appear to be a paper tiger.

But don't stop until the fat kid and all his generals are smoking piles of flesh ready to be fed to NK/s starving dogs. That kind of thing sends a clear msg to the entire world.
No more Mr. nice guy. Earthlings take note.
Mattis threatens “massive military response” if N. Korea attacks.
I read just fine. And if you cannot comprehend or read between the lines as to what Mattis’s statement meant, then I suggest you go back to elementary school for remedial reading.
I like the way he stated that. I interpret it to mean: "We can annihilate North Korea if we choose to do so, but we also have other options."
It's beyond weak. They already are a threat. Why isn't there a military response? Sounds like they're playing Obama's "sand in the line" game.
I’ll put my education as well as common sense up against yours anyday.
Not what he said but ok.
Exactly. How many times does Kim need to tell us he is going an annihilate us, and then prove he has the weapons to do so, before we believe him.
We did not start this. The Norks did. And they will finish it if we do not finish it first.
Little man will be assassinated within 30 days. Eating my popcorn now.
Whatever sport. But if you’ll take a half a second to look at other responses that contradict yours, and if you knew anything about General Mattis, then you would not misinterpret his statements as weak.
Why would we need a declaration of war? We are already involved in hostilities with North Korea, just paused by an armistice for several decades. Guess if Korea now attacks the US Trump could ask for a declaration of war but it’d hopefully be over before congress could act.
“Pray a Chinese owned general puts a bullet into Kimmy.”
Hi Five Dog, you got it....
