Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders said Thursday that the unprecedented rainfall and resulting flooding from Hurricane Harvey should spark a discussion about climate change.
"I think it is pretty dumb not to ask some hard questions about why more rain is now falling, and has fallen in the Houston area, as I understand it, than any time that people can have measured," Sanders told CNN's Chris Cuomo.
The first priority in responding to Harvey's devastation should be saving lives and ensuring people affected have adequate and safe housing, Sanders said, but he added that the issue of climate change should also be addressed.
Some areas of Texas saw almost 52 inches of rain, and the full scope of destruction from the storm is still unknown.
"Is it related to climate change? Is some of the intensity and the magnitude of this related to Climate change? I think most scientists believe it is," Sanders said. "The right question to be asking is 'what does this mean for the future?'"

That's the key and the only unique thing about Harvey was that a cat 4 stalled. Before, to my knowledge, only tropical storms like Allison had stalled.
That's correct. A relatively rare pattern for August and then the "arm' of moisture lined up with Houston. Otherwise even with some stalling, it would have been less rain than Allison.
Thanks for the mention Palmer.
Your conclusion sounds reasoned to me.
Ban hurricanes!
It’s all Trump’s fault for dumping the Paris Accord.
Yeah. Why is it so cold?
It’s pretty dumb to listen to condescension from a socialist and a sell out who wouldn’t know the difference between a gas and a solid.
This is a point that should NEVER be forgotten! It is exactly why those sort of things are done.
“Everyone complains about the weather, but no one ever does anything about it”. Mark Twain
“California has four seasons: earthquake, fire, flood and drought.”.......Old Californian saying...............
The man continues to show his ignorance.
PV=nRT.... the Ideal Gas Law. Instead of trace amounts of CO2 controlling the planet (400 parts per million... 0.04%), someone did a study where the Climate Cycles were much more reliably predicted using only the sun and air pressure as the main variables. CO2 doesn’t do diddly in comparison, nor does your SUV. Makes much more sense.... but Al Gore doesn’t get to control the planet’s economy with air pressure, so we have to listen to more of this nonsense.
Texas Flood, is ingrained in the culture because it happens a lot. If a pressure system holds a rain storm over Houston, like has happened before, this is what you get.
Need to build huge aqueduct to get water out.
Finally, a hurricane to exploit as the result of the global warming that reached new heights this year./sarc
