There is a raging controversy within the University of Mississippis Greek Life community regarding race relations and bananas.
A Greek Life leader accidentally sparked mass hysteria after he placed a banana peel on a tree in the woods -- because he could not find a trash can.
The Daily Mississippian reports that three black students found the banana peel -- and were apparently triggered by what they saw.
"To be clear, many members of our community were hurt, frightened, and upset," the interim director of fraternity and sorority life wrote in a letter obtained by the newspaper.
The president of one sorority told the newspaper that "bananas have historically been used to demean black people."
I always thought bananas were historically used to make banana pudding.
It's unclear how many were triggered by the banana peel - but the fear and trepidation was so great that a meeting was convened at the campground. The Daily Mississippian described what happened:
"The massive discussion session wrapped up as more and more students stood and left the room - some in tears, some in frustration. NPHC members began texting friends to come and pick them up from the camp since no one had been allowed to drive his or her car up to the retreat. The remainder of the retreat was canceled later that night," the newspaper reported.
It sounds as if terrified Ole Miss students were stampeding through the woods weeping and wailing as they sought psychological refuge from the banana peel.
An Ole Miss spokesman confirmed there was some sort of incident.
We are aware of the situation and are working to address it through appropriate channels, the spokesman told me. Since we became aware of what occurred at the fraternity and sorority communitys retreat, UM staff acted quickly in an effort to engage in discussion with students.
Does that mean Ole Miss will ban racially-offensive fruit and vegetables from campus dining halls? Has there been a call to banish banana nut bread or ice cream sundaes or heaven forbid - banana pudding?
The young man who discarded the banana peel - profusely apologized and said he meant no harm but I doubt its going to make much difference.
"I want to sincerely apologize for the events that took place this past weekend," the student wrote in a letter to the newspaper. "Although unintentional, there is no excuse for the pain that was caused to members of our community."
In retrospect - the young man would have been better off just tossing the peel on the ground. It's better to be a litterbug than to be falsely accused of being a racist.
I imagine the only thing that could have possibly been more offensive -- would have been eating the banana while watching Gone with the Wind.
Isn’t their attendance already dropping low enough?
How are they going to justify those professor’s $400,000 salaries when they have no more students?
The sad news for both of us is that the “job market” will scoop them right up and give them optional show/no real work jobs to check the proper affirmative action boxes. They will get mid level jobs without going through entry level for their Social Justice value to the corporation.
If I was near old miss, I’d being buying up bananas, eating them and leaving the peals all over the campus.
I’ve never thought of bananas as an anti black fruit. Never. Ever. Never heard of such a thing.
A few weeks ago, I stepped out of my truck at Home Depot and actually slipped on a banana peel.
To think, I could have yelled and screamed about their corporate insensitivity and how I was triggered and stuff. I could have made something up that banana’s are historically seen as demeaning to old bald guys and sued Home Depot.
Instead, like an idiot, I picked it up and threw it away...like an adult
Poor kid. If he had said something sensible like "It's just a piece of trash. Get real, you effin' buttercups." he would have been expelled. Instead, he's another victim of leftist 1984 goodthink (thoughts that are approved by the Party and follow its policies, ideals and interpretations).
I don't,know how the nation can possibly survive this crap.
Imagine the outrage if he had left an eggplant in the tree.
When I read stories like this, I have a hard time criticizing Paul Ryan and his fellow GOP Chamber of Commerce lackeys for pushing changes that make it easier for U.S. employers to import foreign H1B and H2B visa workers.
The entire left has gone totally BANANNAS ,,, and they want someone to examine Trumps mental wellness .
“Yes! We have no bananas.”
I was told this the other day. That Bananas were racist because it implies that they were monkeys.
I asked for a handout so I can keep up with all the triggers. They were not amused at first, then they started to laugh.
So bizarre.
In Mississippi, ferals are gunning down innocent young white women at stoplights and feral 13 year old monsters are cutting ears off white women. BLM wantonly murders police gangland style across the nation. In Kansas, a feral wants to “kill all whites” and murders five men on hiking trails. Blacks kill 50 other other blacks every weekend of the year in Chicago.
But blacks at Ole Miss cannot tolerate a banana peel in a tree.
It’s like the black race has splintered into two polar opposite sub races: monsters and pansies scared of their own shadows. Even worse, I suspect the pansies can morph into monsters overnight.
Today banana tomorrow watermelon or fried chicken.
Oh come on now, the only professors making $400k bring in a ton of research money.
Colleges are training them to assume the worst intentions about people, live in a paranoid mental state, engage in projection when dealing with others. In short, it is teaching the thinking patterns of mental illness.
