Trump moves to restore work requirement for welfare
The Washington Times ^ | August 30, 2017 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 08/30/2017 2:13:02 PM PDT by jazusamo

The Trump administration moved Wednesday to reimpose work requirements for Americans on welfare, revoking an Obama-era policy that had urged states to apply for waivers exempting the poor from having to show they were either getting job training or looking for work.

Requiring work was a key part of the 1996 welfare reform law enacted by a GOP-led Congress and signed by then-President Clinton, and Mr. Trump’s move restores the law as written.

There is enough trash along the roads and weeds to cut to keep people busy for ages. Start there and move on to cleaning and painting the parks.

Very encouraging. I think Deep State has escalated their influence over foreign policy. As long as Trump stays true to his domestic agenda l can live compromise in the foreign policy realm. CNBC was griping about the fact that Miller the tax speach today. Miller is about the last real conservative in the inner circle therefore he is the one with the bullseye.

Interesting angle, unforeseen (to most) consequence.

And which drug(s) to test for? Once word gets out xxx is not assayed, people gravitate to that drug and get a free pass. What if that drug is more costly and dangerous to society than the original ones? And what do you do in pot-legal states? TANF is federal money administered by the states. Although illegal federally, testing and denying in a pot-legal state would likely result in sticky lawsuits.

Problem with medicaid is fraud. Couples are not getting married and not even declaring they live together. They have 2 kids, work for minimum wage $21.00 hr combined which is $800 week or 40k per year. Mother and kids say they have no other support so 40 becomes 20 and presto...they qualify for subsidized rent, EBT food stamps, and free medicaid. If we could cut the fraud, the total costs could drop by 50%. Of course then there is the child care credit...each parent files as single and many of them use other people’s kids and made up ones to get back several thousand dollars in tax refunds. They overall make more money than hard working honest people.

I’ll never forget when 0bama removed this by fiat and likely it was on a Friday when no one noticed; and, of course, the Republican fakes did NOTHING.

Except to us. We’ve never received a dime of opm. We pay. And pay. And pay again.
We did get a break on our PG&E electric because hubby has a medical requirement to charge a pain stimulator he has in his back. They almost doubled our lifeline allowance. Here that’s a big deal. The regular lifeline allowance wouldn’t keep a nat alive.

You’re right. Fraud is a problem.

Most (all most all) of the Medicaid patients that come into the office where I work, over the past 2 years are not people born in the US. Majority are from the Middle East.

Bammy changed the rules big time. It use to be the disabled Americans, now it’s able bodied foreigners.

Several years ago I was listening to an interview with a women that worked in the welfare dept. in Montgomery county MD. She refused to give welfare payments to illegal aliens and so she was fired.

Rats are using middle classes’ money to buy votes.

Why the waivers in the first place? Total crap! If you pass a law requiring welfare queens to work, then make them work! Don’t make it optional, based on the whims of the president.

...but, of course, we did just that 20 years ago, and also sealed Bill Clinton’s re-election at the same time.

Excellent list. Will pass along. Also don’t forget there have been many more federal judges voted on and seated on the bench. Thanks for compiling that list.
