THE FUTURE OF ENERGY IS STILL . . . COAL
Powerline ^ | 8/29/2017

Turns out if you look close you find out two things. First, in 1990, 88 percent of the world’s energy came from fossil fuels. After more than 25 years and over a trillion dollars in subsidies for “renewable” energy, in 2015 the world’s share of energy from fossil fuels was . . . 86 percent. (See figure immediately below.) At this rate, it will take 150 years to get fossil fuel energy down to 75 percent of the world’s total energy supply. I’m sure just $200 trillion in subsidies will do the trick.

May the coal engine trains return, along with the surface ships powered by coal.

Rescue in hurricanes is impossible without petroleum products. Helicopters, trucks, planes, boats are useless without oil and gas.

I spent a large part of my working career in and around coal fired electric plants. They are dirty, but the newer technology has made emissions much cleaner. They are just fine, so long as one does not count CO2 as a pollutant.

The coal plants that were closed during the Obozo administration were such a waste. They could have bee phased out, but were shuttered with many useful years left. Economic insanity by an anti growth administration.

And the coal ain't goin' anywhere. It'll still be there when needed, when technology renders it acceptably clean.

Coal may be the future. I am most concerned about all the mercury in coal.

Plastics require fossil fuels as feedstock and the future is in plastics.

[The state could have gotten a clean source of energy, and upper New York state would right now enjoy an economic boom as natural gas wells and pipelines are built to feed New York City.]

And a manufacturing renaissance in upstate NY. Which is precisely why the left will not allow it.

Far better to have an “unspoiled” (in a liberal’s mind) landscape while locals live hand to mouth.

Can the plants be converted back to coal, easily?

Ya know, don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.....:)

Exactly. Most people don’t have a clue about it either. Especially people like Elon Musk who thinks all the nighttime energy on the US grid can be from batteries one mile square.

Under the U.S. electricity summary heading, look under power generation for fuel costs and note the trend for 2018.

Lol. Kind of too late by now. Call the hazmat team if you break one of the things in your home.

Funny reading until you realize that they are bad.

Unintended consequences. Incandescent bulbs still give the best light for reading. And are perfectly safe. The energy saving vs mercury danger is simply not worth it.

Maybe they were a little too hasty?

Funny too that no one ever mentions the dangers that we are exposing our family and pets to. All in the name of saving the environment, I guess.

I am surprised that the EPA website is still running. I would have expected them to shut it down by now.

I am not bringing more mercury into my house. I have a big stock of incandescent bulbs, and just keep stepping down in wattage

Me too. And I have some old ones with the higher wattage, too. I stocked up. :)

Funny thing about incandescents — they seem to last longer than or about the same as the CFLs. Another lie?

I live within 50 miles of 10 coal fired plants along the Ohio. I assumed that there would be a partial conversion to natural gas but I haven’t seen it. Where are you seeing this take place?
