Seven months into the Trump administration, Palestinian leaders say they still dont know what President Trumps position is on their conflict with Israel, frustrated that he refuses to commit publicly to the so-called two-state solution as the key to resolving it.
As a delegation led by White House adviser Jared Kushner arrived in the region for meetings with Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, there was a glimpse of that frustration in the State Department briefing room on Wednesday.
Why are you so loath to say to commit yourself, to recommit yourself to the two-state solution? asked Said Arikat, Washington bureau chief for the Palestinian newspaper Al-Quds.
Spokeswoman Heather Nauert began her response by saying Trump has made it clear from the outset that Mideast peace is one of his top priorities. [ ]
Nauerts inference that embracing the two-state solution would amount to showing bias [to] one side over the other is not something Palestinian leaders and supporters will have heard publicly from a U.S. administration for at least 15 years.

...Israel and Palestine, the current situation between those two peoples is unsustainable, Mattis said. Were going to have to find a way for a two-state solution. If we do not, then we will continue to see warfare as it keeps the kettle boiling out there.
That is why you see so much of Secretary Clintons efforts go into trying to keep this peace effort at least alive, Mattis added.
Mattis reiterated this position in 2013 and stressed that additional Israeli settlements in the West Bank could even result in apartheid, not to mention rendering the prospect of a two-state solution impossible.
He said that the perception America was biased in favor of Israel was a constant thorn in his side while he served as head of U.S. Central Command....
The right answer is to let Israel, Jordan, and Egypt sort this out themselves. Back Israel with whatever material and influence is helpful to them. Stop treating Hamas and Fatah as if they were legitimate governments; if they have something to say, they can say it directly to one of the three constituted governments involved. We should not grant them any kind of legitimacy beyond what we would grant any backwater mayor of a backwater city.
If I were President, I would never get involved with the Palestinians, because they are the welfare queens of the international community, they don't really want peace, and there is no outside resolution to their problems. Its a lose-lose-lose.
I believe this is exactly the course of action that President Trump intends to pursue.
The Muslims swimming in the Med would be an okay solution....
One cannot have a two state solution when one side refuses to recognize the others right to exist. The Palestinian state is a farce...they should be absorbed by Israel and brought to heel!!!
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
Then why is Jared and company over there?
To lay out this country’s expectations of all involved.
The so-called Palestinians were offered a two-state solution years ago. They rejected it. What they want is a one-state solution - no Israel.
The TRUTH is that Trump supports the rightful sovereignty of Israel.
If the intent is to let Egypt, Israel, and Jordan sort it out then we should not have any expectations or preconditions. Just that they should go forth and sort it out amongst the three of them. No need to meet with anyone, least of all the Palestinians.
“frustrated that he refuses to commit publicly to the so-called two-state solution as the key to resolving it. “
Oh, so you mean the minute he walked in the door, he didn’t guaranteed he will adopt your negotiating goal?
Shocking.
I though arabs were supposed to be these shrewd traders and all.
Mattis is an ass. Like all our generals they have been compromised with too much Arab contact and have gone Asiatic. The two state solution puts the west bank as an enemy nation salient into Israel bringing the entire nation into rocket and artillery range.
The west bank should simply remain an occupied territory, ruled by the Israeli military. It should also never be brought into Israel so the enemy can vote.
Too bad. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Until Egypt and Jordan take ownership of these thugs called “Palestinians, there can be no peaceful solution. I fully understand why neither of those countries wants to give these terrorists voting rights, but it’s their responsibility to deal with their own mess.
Those countries are three of the biggest recipients of U.S. foreign aid in the world. They should be told that sorting their problems out is one of our expectations before ANY additional U.S. aid is sent to any of them.
There are already two states. Isreal and Jordan. Palestinian is just a fancy word for devolved Jordinian
Good. It’s not up to us to determine what the solution there will look like.
