Since Friday, the National Weather Service has described the impacts Hurricane (and now Tropical Storm) Harvey in superlatives, with forecasts stating the flooding would be catastrophic and life threatening.
Now, nearly 50 inches of rain (4 feet!) are in the forecast as Harvey stalls over Houston, and the Weather Service is stretching to find the right way to describe the risk.
Theyre calling the situation unprecedented.
Long-time weather journalists and meteorologists are saying this language is as dire as the National Weather Service gets.
Rains could last through the week. Five are reported dead already. More deaths may come. This situation is likely to get worse before it gets better.

Timothy McIntosh, of Tampa, Fla., sent the original tweet, which was re-tweeted more than 2,000 times.
The Daily News reached out to McIntosh on Twitter, and then spoke to him over the phone. He said the picture was sent to him by Trudy Lampson, his mother-in-law and the owner of the La Vita Bella, at about 9 a.m.
Let’s cut back on the personal stuff.
How sad!
I can see why people thought it was fake. You got a cat with a woman under him about to fall in the water. And a scene just so horrifying it has to be fake...except it isn’t.
The sad part about it is that you know what any retailer is gonna do with a bunch of floating bottles after a hurricane?
Toss them in the dump. They could be cracked or contaminated or otherwise dangerous.
At least the looters got a good buzz out of em!
;-)
Us Texicans know what floodplain is and getting flooded when we live in one is part of the deal. We just hunker down until it’s past then pick up our tools and go to work.
That is the strong TX take charge thing you are most famous for.
Read the bio. I’m guessing it is some form of he.

One of the upsetting pictures I have seen.
Don’t tell me what to do.
I don’t even know that poster.
But people like you ruin discourse.
