Top White House economic advisor Gary Cohn says he seriously considered resigning after President Donald Trump's reaction to the violent protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.
"I have come under enormous pressure both to resign and to remain in my current position," Cohn said during an interview with the Financial Times about economic policy.
"As a Jewish-American, I will not allow neo-Nazis ranting 'Jews will not replace us' to cause this Jew to leave his job. I feel deep empathy for all who have been targeted by these hate groups. We must all unite together against them," Cohn said.
The former president of Goldman Sachs has said that the administration "must do better" when condemning neo-Nazis and white supremacists. Initially following the protests the president blamed "both sides" for causing protests to become deadly. Trump also said there were some "very fine people" among the white supremacist protesters.
Cohn met with Trump privately last Friday and even drafted a resignation letter, The New York Times reported.

Trump's "street cred" wouldn't have been enhanced very much if he didn't have some @sshole from CNN (probably that Acosta misfit) there interrupting him. That gave Trump the opportunity to point at him and say, "Hold on, Fake News!" right there on national television. LOL.

Agreed. For someone who has terrific gut instincts it’s strange to see the people he brings in to his circle to implement his agenda.

1. Dig in and continue to implode.
2. Start reporting him more fairly.
Either way he wins and they lose their minds.

I wish he HAD resigned. Cohn has FAILED to deliver on tax cuts. Who needs him? Not Trump. Wall Street BOOMED after Trump’s election, long before he named the arrogant twit Cohn, and the markets don’t need him in his meaningless position.
The president would be better served by appointing some randomly selected "deplorable" from Skunk Hollow WV than by keeping you ...
I think it’s clear. Once the body Trump works with, pushes it into the political arena, it’s over. This is why he dismantled the business advisory groups, this is why he doesn’t subject himself to ridicule by showing up at some gala to honor artists.
I get it that President Trump likes the give-and-take. The problem is we’re over six months into the presidency and never-Trumpers and their media slaves are framing the administration. He has to move on past giving them the stage and work to get the Deplorable agenda passed.

Then resign, Cohn, and take your crappy three-bracket income tax scheme with you. Go back to Goldman Sachs or wherever you came from.

Unfortunately, that’s a fair question. You’d think there’d be people out there who are competent, squeaky clean, AND 100% devoted to Trump’s agenda...so devoted that they’d take a lickin’, and keep on tickin’.
But instead we’re getting liars (Gen. Flynn) and pouters (Spicer, Cohn, etc.). I’m puzzled by this. And I can’t simply put it on the Deep State. As Truman said, “The buck stops here”.
The simple truth here is that Donald Trump cannot pass "the Deplorable agenda" on his own. The comical Twitter messages and constant humiliation of the media at their own game serves two purposes:
1. To distract public attention from the failures of Congress to pass key items in "the Deplorable agenda."
2. To distract media attention when key items in "the Deplorable agenda" are advanced.
Trump never should have hired him in the first place. Big mistake.
