WASHINGTON – The venerated journalistic institution the Washington Post, which recently adopted the slogan “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” published a column Wednesday by a spokesman for the “Prince of Darkness” who blamed Christianity for slavery and white supremacism.

The op-ed by Lucien Greaves, both a defense of satanism and an attack on Christianity, was headlined “I’m a founder of the Satanic Temple. Don’t blame Satan for white supremacy.”

Although slavery was historically practiced by virtually every culture in the world and only stopped by Christians, Greaves revives the argument that blames it on Christians.

In the op-ed, the self-described co-founder of the Satanic Temple:

• Objects to Christians blaming Satan for the death and violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, earlier this month;

• Objects to condemnations of white supremacy as satanic;

• Blames Christians for slavery;

• Claims Satan is pro-science and pro-humanism;

• Claims modern satanism embraces Enlightenment values;

• Claims satanism is more modern than “theocratic superstitions”;

• Claims satanism embraces secular values;

• Blames all white supremacy in the U.S. on something called the Christian Identity movement;

• Blames slavery on “Protestant radicalization”;

• Claims Satan is a victim;

• Claims there is a witch hunt against satanists;

• Claims satanism is diverse and not racist;

• Claims satanism is a victim of superstition;

Greaves begins his piece by taking exception to what he terms a “consensus among Christian leaders was that Satan was at fault” for the violence and death in the melee between far-right protesters and far-left counter protesters earlier this month in Charlottesville.

Evangelist Franklin Graham had shamed politicians “trying to push blame on President Trump.”

“Really, this boils down to evil in people’s hearts. Satan is behind it all,” Graham said.

Blames Christians for slavery;

This is why it is so important for us to fight back against the dismantling of statues of historical figures in the public square. Take away a few more confederate statues and kids growing up might never know the USA fought a civil war to free the slaves. Put in proper context, and ignoring whether the war itself was about slaves at the beginning, one can argue that no other christian nation or people sacrificed their blood for a more righteous cause than our American Civil War. And even after such a terrible war you'd be hard pressed to find a more amicable reunification of the two sides without forced interference from abroad. The only value that transcends the evil of the killing and depredations is the christian values shared by both north and south. Ironically it is the rise of non-christian values which puts that long lasting peace in jeopardy.

In that context, Christians hands down did more than any other people to put a stop to slavery. It isn't even debatable.

Slavery has been historically endemic in almost every culture, from primitive tribalism to high civilizations.

It has *only* been eradicated in Christian countries, and in areas dominated by Christian countries (e.g. the British Empire).
