he U.S. Navy will relieve the commander of its 7th Fleet from duty after the fleet suffered its second deadly mishap in less than three months, a U.S. defense official confirmed to Fox News.
An official statement from the Navy regarding the relief of Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin was expected late Tuesday night. The decision was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The 7th Fleet has been involved in three collisions since January, the last two of which have resulted in the deaths of 17 sailors.

Actually that is all BS. There is no excuse for getting so close to a merchant in open waters that such highly refined judgments matter.
Agreed. These 7th Fleet collisions are utterly inexplicable, and unprecedented. How could these warships simply wander into harm’s way? Something mysterious is going on.
Yeah, I’ve been to Point Loma, that trendy seaside onclave of San Diego, where many Navy retirees go to live. He will have a cushy retirement.
Thanks for posting. This does appear to demonstrate a strange change of course of the Alinic.
The Navy ship - it’s CNN so be forewarned
(so folks can see where the damage really is)
“””These 7th Fleet collisions are utterly inexplicable, and unprecedented. How could these warships simply wander into harms way? Something mysterious is going on.”””
These accidents are not inexplicable, unprecedented, or mysterious. Keep in mind the Navy brass has the tracking data on each of these Navy ships involved in these collisions.
If we had access to the tracking data of the Fitzgerald and the McCain, we would see how obvious the collisions happened.

I wonder was this just a head to roll
OR
was it because sensitivity and gender awareness training was more important than actual military training?
Hope no one higher up in Navy sees this, but have a son who did 6 years enlisted in Navy hoping to complete his degree while in Navy and then become an officer. But they have a crazy rule that only courses taken and passed while at sea will count. His ship was in dry dock most of his time.
So, after 6 years, he used the GI Bill to get his engineering degree (almost all A’s) and is going back in as officer and has been selected for flight school - very rare - but his dream since 8 years old. His grandfather was an O6 who could have made O7 if he stayed in reserves longer.
He has seen that political correctness has made the Navy incompetent at almost all levels.
So I ask him why he wants to fly jets whose maintenance crews are incompetent and don’t care?
“My life is in God’s hands.....” He’s a strong Christian after being a wild one.......
But he is correct.......
Ditto what you said. I understand the redundancy in place to prevent accidents, but the three you cite makes me believe something else is up.
Could this be intentional? Could a group of sailors(deep state/navy) ban together to create an act like this?
in 2008 when the market crashed corporations used that time to purge incompetency hires by slashing massive job and departments. It was a way of hiding meritocracy. The bad part was firing many good people to get to fire those incompetent people.
How to we purge the incompetent and social hires of the military in ALL branches?
Any passage through the Straits of Malaysia requires increased diligence. Why did the watches aboard the U.S. Navy vessels utterly fail to notice the behemoth freighters bearing down on them?
Yeah, those tankers are kinda’ hard to see.
“Every once in a while, I just get swept up and wonder how 7 years after 9/11, the USA got completely usurped by him and whoever the hell his handlers are.”
I’ve said since I first heard the Fraud stutteringly diss America that it would have been like electing a guy named Adolf to POTUS in the late 1940’s.
“””Yeah, those tankers are kinda hard to see.”””
Especially the lightly loaded tankers traveling at 9.2 knots that sit 15 feet higher in the water are most difficult to see!!!!!!
Has anyone noticed the Navy destroyers are getting hit by a lightly loaded ACX Crystal and Alnic MC?
Just to make clear for those that may not know, the “Pentagon” trains and equips, and the Theater CINCs do the warfighting.
Maybe it's time to ditch affirmative action and go back to a merit based system of hiring and promoting? How does a huge slow moving tanker sneak up on a state of the art warship? Whoever is Chief of Naval Operations needs to resign along with the Commander of the 7th Fleet.
They ought to fire the chief of naval operations.
Maybe enough competent people decided to leave the service and do something else during the Obama administration, and now they have a manpower shortage in key billets. I saw a Fox News report. They quoted a Navy officer that said training isn't what it used to be.
“... The fleet commander isnt responsible for training the ship cruise.”
Yes, you’re correct - training for the “cruise” is the responsibility of Captain Steuben, before he sails the Love Boat out for another romantic adventure! “Come aboard - we’re expecting you! ...”
