he U.S. Navy will relieve the commander of its 7th Fleet from duty after the fleet suffered its second deadly mishap in less than three months, a U.S. defense official confirmed to Fox News.
An official statement from the Navy regarding the relief of Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin was expected late Tuesday night. The decision was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The 7th Fleet has been involved in three collisions since January, the last two of which have resulted in the deaths of 17 sailors.

One ship had lost a launch and men about a year prior to when we about got hit I couldn't remember the name of the ship except carrier stuck out in my mind. Liberty Launches were dangerous. Most persons boarded at the deckhouse. The boat crew boarded going down a Jacobs Ladder and praying a swell didn't bring it crashing down on your skull.

The comments i’ve seen from servicemembers elsewhere is that the constant refrain of “do more with less” has resulted in undercrewing and widespread sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation explains a lot of otherwise inexplicable errors in judgment.
This is going to be poor seamanship, poor execution of processes, poor training, and poor leadership, exacerbated by factors such as extended operational cycles and PC crap thrown in for good measure.
Thats it. Those who know better understand fully that these incidents are the result of just that.
Very true but the Navy we knew was disassembled beginning in the early 90's. Think about it. If a man enlisted in 1992 he would now have 25 years in. Most don't stay that long. An entire generation of sailors or an entire career cycle never saw the Navy you and I did. I'm not saying under Jimmy Peanuts we didn't have issues but we passed our readiness exams.
WE have Admirals who never saw the Reagan Navy which was the height of readiness. By 1992 things had gone to crap and it's stayed there.
I'm not attacking the sailors themselves. I'm attacking and condemning SECDEF and SECNAVs from the Poppy Bush administration through Omabas as well as congress. The top is corrupt and very bad choices have been made. Now we see the end result of the neglect.
They need to ask for fleet reserve {retired}senior NCO's and 0-5's to come back in and show how it was done. Pay them civilian tech rep pay but give them their rank.
When I was in the USN, we had a 600 ship navy. When you reduce the number to less than half, you eliminate many opportunities to acquire experience and training before assuming larger commands at sea. It resembles an apprentice system. Add to that an unreasonable operations tempo that strains the fleet. This is a symptom of much larger problems.

When multi-billion dollar US warships get rammed by slow-moving freighters, it suggests something of colossal importance is amiss.
Those commanders who know what it is, and how to fix it should be promoted.
All the rest should be fired, quickly.
Correct critical operations, such as safe operations, are a culture as much as a procedure.
There are lookouts reporting to the bridge and they can’t be cyperhacked.
Then I can further speculate that the wheel does not respond to commands or that the look outs are asleep/ill trained.
I know we can go around and around. But there is a cause that I am certain will be be more than negligence or poor training if and when made known.
Look A-hole I’ve been OOD qualified on three CVA’s (Look it up).. a war ship is designed to sustain massive combat damage and the officers the Cionn them have been trained to maneuver the ship {ships} without ANY electronics at all.
When a ship is burning around you, you use the sailors around you with eyeballs to give you the inputs to navigate ship...

Let me try to splain it to you Lucy.... When a evil country such as China has the technology to cloak a signal such as GPS or radar they can make the electronics on a marine vessel look as if it is functioning. Are you following me Popeye? So the person at the helm will think that all is good and they are in a certain cut of water when actually they are 1000 yards off course and BAM, Popeye they done run aground.
Now the other way they do it is cloak the transponder signal on a certain vessel, say cargo ship to look like it is 5 miles away and image this onto Popeye's electronics. When actually the cargo ship is headed for them to bust them in the side.
Now the ship is burning and it is all men on deck to help out as you say to give "input" because they done gone and busted up your ride, Popeye..... You know I am the type of guy that likes to, ehhhhh, not have to fix it if it ain't broke kind of old age man not some snowflake sailor that gets his ride busted up THEN it is all men on deck, Mr. OOD Qualified Popeye.
IF you would humor me, go look at the pics from this latest bashing our Navy took to the cargo ship wreck. This ship was hit in the same exact spot. In the sleeping quarters/guidance area. Coincidence or just happen chance?

The Fitzgerald was near Oshima and Toshima Islands when the collision occurred. Were the Fitzgerald sailors distracted by making their last smart phone calls to friends back home before losing cellular service for an extended period of time?
The McCain was approaching Singapore when the collision occurred. Were the McCain sailors distracted by making their first smart phone calls to friends back home after having no cellular service for an extended period of time?

How many redundant systems for steering? It’s just nuts to think a Navy vessel wouldn’t have backups for such a vulnerable system as steering. So that leaves us with two questions.. who is sinking Destroyers? And why is everyone covering it up?
Utter failures in training.. wouldn’t a fleet commander start immediately ramping up combat training after the Fitzgerald?
Bad at nav? Well yes. Our entire computer system went down company wide. We rolled out the paper trail o matic of old and got back to work.
Some people had never worked without a computer. They were just helpless. Think about it.. these kids are young and have no idea how to nav without technology.
Both collisions happened in roughly the same area.

What about all of those desk jockey admirals who have no vessels to command? What the heck are they doing? Did they at least farm out someone to think of solutions after the first collision? Surely they have staffers coming out of their ears who spend hours and hours poring over trivial efficiency reports.
