Duke University removed a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from the entrance of a chapel on the Durham, North Carolina, campus, officials said on Saturday, days after it was vandalized.
The decision to take down the statue followed discussions among students, faculty, staff and alumni about maintaining safety on campus, university President Vincent E. Price said in a statement.
"I took this course of action to protect Duke Chapel, to ensure the vital safety of students and community members who worship there, and above all to express the deep and abiding values of our university," Price said.
The prestigious university will preserve the statue of Lee, who led Confederate forces in the American Civil War of 1861-1865, and use it as an educational tool so that students can study "Duke's complex past," Price added.
The Confederacy, comprised of 11 Southern states, broke from the Union largely to preserve the institution of slavery.
Symbols of the Confederacy have come into focus since last weekend, when white nationalists, angered at the planned removal of a statue of Lee from a park in Charlottesville, Virginia, engaged in violent protests where a counter-protester was killed.
Well they need to take it down as well. That would be funny as hell.Commies.

Just want it on the record that I am happy to house these monuments to bigotry and hate on my family farm; hidden away from anyone who may faint at the obvious hate-mongering idolatry that they represent.
Just tell me where/when to come pick it up. I’m waiting and ready.

The idiot (Landrieu) spent $2 million on statues while not getting the pumps working in his below-sea-level city. A small rain flooded part of the town and there’s another month left of tropical storm season.

Community and individuality are not opposites. People cannot survive on their own. When the odds are stacked against you, you must rally with the oppressed and hated.
When a growing oppressive regime is taking hold, you must act, otherwise you will soon face your enemy alone and hopeless.
Strength of community is a strength as much as individualism, as long you are willing to face weaknesses in your own community. Ignoring slacking values will mean that you will be rallied against by those you oppress.
Niemöller affirms we must rally against unhealthy organized regimes. We must also stay vigilant with those that appear to be good natured, as all organisation attracts corruption. Niemöller also warns us that if it is you who are corrupt, then you will face a stronger combined force of foe!

I wonder when the Statue of John Wayne at the OC Airport will feel the wrath of the Left?
I recall he played a ex Confederate Soldier in a couple of Movies, Rooster Cogburn and the Searchers I think.
Clint Eastwood did in The Outlaw Josie Wales, but I don’t think there is a Statue of him anywhere though.
Wayne was also Republican and against Communists in Hollywood. He’s on the list for destruction no doubt.
Bill Clinton might be as well. He signed 3 Strikes into law, welfare reform, and opposed Sodomite marriage.
Complete destruction of our history is the goal. The Constitution itself says “3/5 all other persons” making it a Hate Crime document and, as we know, hate speech is non speech and must be eliminated. So add it to the list of documents to be destroyed.
What about the Nifong statue?

It is time to sue Duke University because Confederate soldiers are American Veterans by various Acts of Congress:
Duke no longer has any school values. We learned than with the false rap claims against some of their students about 5 years ago.
It looks like the Duke “Devil” is in charge of the cowardly administration and its minions run the campus doing his evil deeds.
And now the snowflakes at Duke can grab their “bankies” and go “ni-ni” because all is good.
The new Duke University President Vincent Price only recently came into office, replacing the notorious former President Richard Brodhead who helped blow up Duke’s credibility over the fraudulent charges of rape against the Duke Lacrosse team back in 2006. Brodhead should have been fired after that fiasco — but no, he served on until he was ready to go. Another 11 years of shame heaped on Duke University for retaining this gelded coward at the helm.
When the charges were made 11 years ago, Brodhead canceled the rest of the Lacrosse season and the coach was forced to resign. Broadhead expressed sympathy with the extremist views of the Gang of 88 in the faculty who proclaimed the guilt of the members of the lacrosse team against false accusations of rape, with no evidence.Brodhead did nothing to tamp down hostilities on the campus. A substantial payout was made in the lawsuit brought by former players, which Broadhead approved and kept secret. The board of directors continued to support him in spite of his clear failure to show impartiality and to try to get at the truth of what happened.
In the footshopts of the calamities of President Brochead, this new President has already failed in the most important test he has faced to date. Vincent Price should be forced to resign. The problem is that the board at Duke is filled with wealthy leftists who see no problem with this.
If Duke’s future is ever to be salvaged, the board should resign, too, and new members appointed who fervently believed in academic freedom and free speech.
Until there is a clean sweep, the stain of corruption will waft over the campus and it will continue to be a desert for academic freedom, free speech, and free inquiry and a blot on the name of fundamental human fairness and justice.
