"We've located the wreckage of the USS Indianapolis in Philippine Sea at 5500m below the sea."

That tweet from entrepreneur and billionaire Paul Allen around 12:20 p.m. Saturday confirmed what many have been searching for since the ship was sunk on July 30, 1945.

Allen, who is leading a 13-person team on his 250-foot research ship, the R/V Petrel, said the wreckage was found at a depth of more than 18,000 feet.

Have you read the story behind Robert Ballard’s discovery of the Titanic in 1985? Thought it would tie into your comment. Very neat, link enclosed

Thanks!

Actually the guy that found the SS Central America, Tommy Thompson, developed most of that stuff.

Thanks!

Thank you for that.

Admiral Bull Halsey barely got a slap on the wrist for losing about 800 sailors and some ships in a couple of typhoons.

My Grandpas ship. Thankfully he got off when it got to Vallejo. I might not be here if he had gone on that final mission.

It is a great find for the benefit of our history and their families. But how long will it be before the worm turns and leftists will call their mission of nukes un-PC. It is not that far fetched in our new age of PC tyranny. We need to fight the pattern of historical change for PC just as we need to fight invaders entering our homes.

Perhaps Allen he can find Hillary’s 30000 emails.

If it is ever on again, look for a show called “Into the Arizona”

It was on PBS.

Here was a fascinating snippet.

It was at night (midnight) so many of the watertight hatches would have been closed. But as badly as it was damaged a lot of bulkheads would have been blown down.

Great, it’s been found, now leave it alone. There is no good reason to disturb it’s resting place

Ship of Gold at the Bottom of the Deep Blue Sea recounts the recovery and does a play by play of the epic struggle when it sank. A must read book. Unfortunately Thompson has kinda lost his marbles after the story timeline.

They found the USS Juneau. It is the ship the five Sullivan brothers died on.
