Before Charlottesville, Democrats voted for racist policies for more than 100 years
Washington Examiner ^ | 08/18/2017 | Jennifer Kerns

In the aftermath of Charlottesville, an awful lot of awful things have been said about Republicans and race relations.

However, the Left's accusations of racism couldn't be further from the truth that has played out in the halls of Congress over the last 150 years.

It is shocking that as talk of statues and historical racism is being bandied about, no one has mentioned the Democrats' utterly shameful treatment of African Americans throughout history.

Over the last 100 years, Republicans have stood up for African Americans while Democrats not only stood on the sidelines, but in fact served as obstructionists to civil liberties.

Here are at least 12 examples in which Democrats voted against African Americans, and Republicans voted to free them:

Democrats voted against every piece of civil rights legislation in Congress from 1866 to 1966 – a whopping 100 years. That is a dismal record for today's Democrats who would like you to believe that history has been on their side on this issue.

It hasn't.

And then the Republicans nominated that idiot Goldwater for President. Goldwater was against Civil Rights. The nation elected LBJ and wound up with the Great Society which is in fact destroying the USA. Somebody needs to mention that it was the Republicans who went for the idiot Goldwater.

The modern welfare state was supposed to atone for all that, but it didn’t. It created a golden shackles, dehumanizing vote buying system.

Goldwater might have been wise to question the obligation system in which civil rights were couched. Free association rights while also forbidding government support to enforcing policies that were not race blind, would have let the cream of racial harmony rise to the top. Love that isn’t voluntary is not love, it is a cheap, low hypocrisy. And our modern “gay marriage” is teaching that to us.

If one points this out, the answer is that these Democrats are all Republicans now.

There was some sort of magical pole shift that happened in 1972.

They seriously believe the “Southern Strategy” abrogates all this history of Democrat enslavement and oppression of blacks. That is was today’s Republican’s under the name Democrat who did it.

These are irrational, hysterical and crazy people who think they are the best and brightest and rational and sane.

Democrats FAVOR removing the Civil War Confederate statues because it IS the history of the Democrat Party in the USA. Democrats were advocates of segregation until LBJ in 1965.

Timid “they did it too” arguments never get conservatives anywhere. Conservatives need to document the war on white people, publicize it, and fight it however they can.

Goldwater was never against civil rights!

Goldwater had a reputation as a proponent of equal rights for all citizens. His stores in Arizona did not discriminate in its business practices. Where did you get that idea? He did vote against the 1964 Civil Rights because he felt it was a bad bill. In his mind the bill was unnecessary, all was needed was to enforce the laws that were already on the books in a colorblind manner. He commonsensically stated that no bill can undo the “wrongs” of the past, you solve the problem by not doing the “wrongs” any more. Goldwater said the bill would lead to quotas, reverse discrimination etc. Hubert Humphrey one of the bill’s sponsors approached Goldwater (Given his past reputation!) and asked him to be a sponsor, Goldwater said no for the reasons I stated. Humphrey in a famous exchange with Goldwater on the Senate swore that Goldwater’s concerns were impossible and that he would damage his reputation by being against this bill. Goldwater voted against it.

Both Humphrey & Goldwater were correct, Goldwater’s principled vote damaged his reputation as you aptly demonstrated by saying Goldwater was against civil rights. However Goldwater was proven right in the long run. The bill did lead to quotas etc. due to “creative spurious “ legal reasoning by both the courts and the EEOC.

Isn’t it amazing that in 60 years the stupid party (repubs) hasnt made any attempts to separate blacks from the RAT party? Even now when its the perfect opportunity to point out the long history of fighting for slavery, promoting racism, their starting the KKK, etc, the Repubs are doing nothing to capitalize on this.

Goldwater was an idiot. Those who oppose civil rights are intellectual dwarfs.

” ..in 60 years the stupid party (repubs) hasnt made any attempts to separate blacks from the RAT party?”

yes, I don’t get it.

So now, POTUS DJT tries to do it, and no one gets it. I understand what is happening. It is just a shame.

Where has the stupid party (repubs) been for 60 years?

“..the Repubs are doing nothing to capitalize on this.”

Only POTUS DJT. The rest of stupid party (repubs) is trying to appease the msm and the other leftists. Which never works.

I did see a very recent R on CNN calling out CNN for their fakenews. He made very good points describing specifically that the stupid party (repubs) is afraid to capitalize on this because they will be called racists and nazis.

The question is.. How did the Democrat Party convince minorities and the poor to trust them? Do they not know history?

No, he was a genius.

Anti constitutionally enforced obligations are civil wrongs. Hasn’t seeing the cancer grow convinced you?

CONSERVATIVE DEMONSTRATORS For the most part are working citizens, educated in history, show control and reserve, believe in peaceful demonstrations.

SOCIALIST DEMONSTRATORS Are for the most part unproductive idiots, hypocritical, not educated in anything useful, are mind controlled lemmings, have no regard for laws and rules, watch CNN and uphold the DEMON part of demonstrator.

Free as in beer that is.

This is what twisting civil rights into gummit entitlements has done. The beast will never have been sufficiently fed.

That’s why we should scrutinize carefully what is strutting around as conservative. It might be a lefty backed front barking up nonsensical trees.

This country is NOT racist, that said, yes there are racists in this country. However there is no longer any institutionalized racism except as it benefits blacks.

Common sense is a beautiful thing.. You don’t need to pass a bill to stop racism.. You simply stop being racist. Love it.
