Chinese quantum satellite sends 'unbreakable' code
BEIJING (Reuters) - China has sent an "unbreakable" code from a satellite to the Earth, marking the first time space-to-ground quantum key distribution technology has been realized, state media said on Thursday.
China launched the world's first quantum satellite last August, to help establish "hack proof" communications, a development the Pentagon has called a "notable advance".
The official Xinhua news agency said the latest experiment was published in the journal Nature on Thursday, where reviewers called it a "milestone".
The satellite sent quantum keys to ground stations in China between 645 km (400 miles) and 1,200 km (745 miles) away at a transmission rate up to 20 orders of magnitude more efficient than an optical fiber, Xinhua cited Pan Jianwei, lead scientist on the experiment from the state-run Chinese Academy of Sciences, as saying.
"That, for instance, can meet the demand of making an absolute safe phone call or transmitting a large amount of bank data," Pan said.

Quantum computing encryption is decades away. I do not think this is real. So China would allow people to communicate anonymously?

Unbreakable?
OK.
Just as long as it’s not inscrutable.

Does it depend on orientation?

China can program their satellites to hunt and kill other satellite with unbreakable comms code. War in the Heavens - eyes in the sky will be much more vulnerable to attack. The high ground will be contested.

if china wants to believe it is unbreakable and the US can break the inscription you can bet we will not hear about it from the government.

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) has been around for some years now. An American company that has been on the leading edge of QKD is called
MagiQ Technologies.
I've only ever heard of it being done over optical fiber, and it is really pretty cool. Basically, you store an encryption key (1024 or 2048 bits) in a photon and transmit that quantum state to another system. As noted in the article if someone tries to intercept it, the quantum state changes right out from under them.
I just don't see how they accomplished this between an earth station and a satellite. Damn impressive.

If someone tries to intercept . . . . .
There goes their unbreakable right out the window. If they can’t get it there without interception attempts, what good is the code if it is never received without the state intact? If they are transmitting it, it has to go over the airwaves as either radio or light. Radio is simple. Light (laser) might even be less of a challenge to disrupt or corrupt.

As Doc Brown would say, you're thinking in three dimensions. The way they "transmit" from satellite to Earth is not using light or radio.
Brace for this because, if true, it is the BIGGEST STORY in tech for at least 50 years, maybe more. They are using something called Entangled Proton Source (EPS), meaning they are using Quantum Entanglement.
Basically, EPS bypasses space-time and the data is transmitted instantly between entangled protons. There's been some work on this very recently and it has the potential to MAKE THE INTERNET OBSOLETE.
That's right, you won't need an Internet connection to browse the web. You'll just entangle the right photons in your computer with the ones running on the FReep server and BOOM, instant FReeping. No wires, no fiber, no radio, no cable. Just a quantum tunnel through space and time!

Did their spys steal it from us or did Obama give it to them?
Either way it’s just a challenge to the hackavists.

The link goes between the quotes. Be sure to preview before posting because: 1) the image might be very large and needs to be proportionally reduced (example: 1000px by 2000px is reduced by adding after the final link quote - width=100 height=200)
2) the image might be protected and not reproducible off the original sight.

Reminds me of the 1997 movie “Titanic” when young Rose’s nutjob fiancé was boarding the ship at Southampton.
He said, “God himself cannot sink her.”
Somewhere in Heaven God was probably saying, “That’s what you think!”

Maybe I am missing something here, how do you get information from one entity to another and back without something, especially a keycode, being transmitted over space, air, water, whatever?
