Health Care: In Iowa, the state's sole remaining insurer announced on Thursday that it wants to boost ObamaCare premiums by 57%. This isn't exactly the vibrant, competitive, low-cost market that Democrats promised. But it is the inevitable outcome of ObamaCare's government-knows-best approach to health care.
Earlier this year, Aetna and Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield announced that they were pulling out of Iowa's ObamaCare exchange, leaving only Medica, which was also threatening to leave. Not surprisingly, Medica has used its newfound monopoly status to push for increasingly higher rates, while trying to pin the blame President Trump for the increases.
The media, of course, are happy to buy into it that claim. Anything to bash Trump.
But Iowans shouldn't. Nor should anyone else in the country who heads to the exchanges later this year only to find for the third year in a row there are fewer choices and record-breaking premium hikes.
The seeds of today's double-digit premium increases and collapsing competition were planted long before Trump took the oath of office. In fact, they were embedded right there in the law President Obama signed in 2010.

Yes, but the media will blame it on Trump.
Little by little the intention to break the health insurance industry is happening. The simple fix for helping the middle class—tax credits for health related expenses—was completely ignored.
True. But the GOP owns health care now so they're going to get the blame. Fair or unfair, that's just the way it is.
And with one Twitter post President Trump will lay all the blame on McCain, Collins and Murkowski.
And that’s McConnell’s turd. They should have never touched it if they didn’t know they had the votes to begin with.
If they want to blame a republican for the rate hikes..
Might I suggest John McCain?
he is the reason Obamacare is unchanged.
Trump has nothing to do with this,
I’m glad that McConnell’s efforts to shift the blame to the Republicans failed, because The Republicans still don’t own any part of it, it’s 100% Democrat. Any thinking person knows this.
But, you’re right about the blame, because most of the press are not people who think, they’re people who hate.
You are so much better at posting a true excerpt of your articles. I’d like to commend you on that. I click the link each article because of it. And because they tend to be worth reading. Thanks.
Keep telling yourself that. When it implodes, or if Trump stops the subsidies, then the whole mess will be blamed on the Republicans because they didn't "fix" it.
Ask McCain how great it is working.
Oh I know, I know. That's why I put the blurb in there about "thinking" people, the only ones who CAN be persuaded. The haters, which includes most of the press and Democrats, will blame Trump.
They should have never touched it if they didnt know they had the votes to begin with.
Long term fix is get insurance companies and government out of health care as much as possible.
Thanks!
