(SF GATE) San Franciscos top political leaders piled on Tuesday in opposition to a right-wing groups planned rally next week at Crissy Field, with Mayor Ed Lee expressing outrage that the National Park Service granted a permit for the event and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi questioning whether it had been approved under guidance from the White House.
An organizer of the Aug. 26 rally rejected suggestions that it would be a gathering of white supremacists. And the local managers of the Presidio, a national park site, said the groups politics made no difference because it had a constitutional right to a permit as long as public safety isnt endangered.
Pelosi, Lee and Sen. Dianne Feinstein said their fear is that law enforcement wont be able to ensure public safety, especially in the aftermath of Saturdays violence at a rally of white supremacists and neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Va. A woman was killed and 19 people were hurt when a car was driven into a crowd of counterprotesters, allegedly by a man who has espoused neo-Nazi views.
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area tentatively issued a permit to the group Patriot Prayer for the Crissy Field rally before last weekends violence. Patriot Prayer says on its website that it is "about fighting corruption and big government with the strength and power of love ... and extending free speech for all."
The group was not connected to the Virginia rally of white nationalists. However, its recent events in Portland, Ore., and Seattle have served as magnets for right-wing extremists, who in turn have drawn left-wing counterprotesters. Clashes between the two sides marked the Portland event, while the Seattle rally Sunday was largely peaceful.
The group is ostensibly religious, but its purpose is really an attempt to provoke black-clad ideologues...

They are hated by the left because they rally and support Trump.
The National Park Service must not cancel this rally. They should instead demonstrate to the country how to provide sufficient security for controversial free speech events.
The Dept of Interior was able to put more than 100 armed men at Bundy ranch. With that 100, 200 Federal Marshalls, 50 Park Rangers and 200 FBI agents...hell, a Marine Battalion if necessary...security CAN be provided.
And ensure the First Amendment Rights of the speakers on Federal land.
Former Army Base
Where was their outrage over the rioting Lakers fans???????????
Not ONE peep.
.
To Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross:
“...The group is ostensibly religious, but its purpose is really an attempt to provoke black-clad ideologues...”
Prove this....
Or print a retraction.....
The media aganda is to equate anything conservative, and escpecially nationalist with “white supremacists”. White’s who are nationalist are “white nationalists”, therefore attacking them is just like fighting the Nazis in WWII. Trump gets it and is the only one standing up to them.
THAT claim was by the SPLC and quoted by the authors.
You think this kind of speech is controversial?
SF THE universal center for tolerance and free speech.
I used to go there on the 4th of July to watch the fireworks. 90% of the time the fog would roll in a half hour before dark and you couldn’t see a thing.
The ONLY reason it is controversial is because antifa and BLM will turn the rally into a war.
You can count on that.
Two trigger words: Patriot and Prayer.
That the Democrats don’t believe in freedom of speech is on parade for the entire country to see.
Oh, and there will most assuredly be white people there.
You left out “...fighting big government...” Antifa types will consider that a directed threat to them and are certain to respond with violence.
The ACLU is going to need to hire a lot more lawyers because cities all over the country are going to start prohibiting assembly by any group that has non-leftist white people in it.
The neo nazis are just like the old nazis, the national socialists just like 1940’s Germany. They hate those who do not look like them or think like them. It is a totalitarian leftist belief system.
The antifa leftists are international socialists just like the soviet union. They hate those who do not look like them and those who have independent abilities. It is a totalitarian leftist belief system. It is like Germany attacking the Soviet Union in WWII.
And to complicate matters is black lives matter which is just a reincarnation of black liberation theology (like 0bama’s church) and the black panthers. They are both communist beliefs which focus on black supremacy and purging non-blacks and taking their posessions. It is a totalitarian leftist belief system. It is like the neo nazis except white is replaced with black.
And there is the muslim invasion which is an islamic supremacy theology. The imams and sharia law control society in a totalitarian manner and they hate Christians, Jews and anyone else who does not believe like them.
All of these groups are fueled by hate and have killed over 100 million of their own citizens over the last 100 years, not counting wars they have started. They all seem to be operating here and the media and leftist politicians are trying to blame the leftist neo nazis on Trump and Republicans.
Someone obviously paid no attention to Seattle. The leftists attacked the police.
If you read the whole story, the organizer of the rally states that they have an American of African Descent as a speaker.
That’s racist?
Remember: the “Nazi Party” translates to the “National SOCIALIST Party”; last I heard, the socialists were left-wing (ie LIBERALS).
Any expressed opposition to them is considered by them to be Nazi, white supremacists, racists, etc.
Then the SPLC should have to prove it...Of course, they never have to prove anything...
I bet they think the Boy Scouts are a “hate group”....
But according to the SPLC their purpose is to provoke the black-clad left. Now I get it. All right or conservative groups should be banned because their only purpose is to provoke the left, then there will be peace.
