"Virgil Caine is the name, and I served on the Danville train, Til Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again. In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive. By May the tenth, Richmond had fell, it's a time I remember, oh so well,

[Chorus] The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing, The night they drove old Dixie down, and the people were singin'. they went La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,"

This is a beautiful folk song recorded by Joan Baez in 1971. But based on the current Rat party leaders and the fake news media, we MUST conclude that Joan Baez is a RACIST!!!! We must destroy all of her recordings, photos, etc. etc.

Left wing Rat icon Joan Baez is clearly a racist for singing this song in 1971.

She MUST be shamed, excoriated, whipped, totured, burned, lynched........let’s see, did I forget anything?

I liked the song. That was back in the time when the South was viewed as a victim of the oppressive North. It was a time when Johnny Reb was admired in the movies.

I like The Band’s version much better. Levon Helm’s voice was perfect for this song.

I’ve never been a fan of folk music, but this is a beautiful song.

I really liked her version of the song. I’ve never been a Joan Baez fan, didn’t buy into the 70’s protest “folk music.” but I’ve always liked Joan’s version of this song.

So I must be a racist like Joan!!

Baez, btw, misheard the lyrics and recorded the song from memory. So she says, “Til so much cavalry came” rather than “Til Stoneman’s cavalry came”. She made another blunder or two but I’m too lazy to look it up. I still like her version a great deal though.

50 years ago Al Capp, creator of Lil Abner Was "hip to her jive" Joanie Phoney, indeed. Also, this little ditty, a satire of Beaz' great works had her panties up in a wad.(language warning). This song was on the Nat'l Lampoon Radio Hour album. Like so many lefties, she can dish it out but can't take the heat. Just like the current meltdown over Trump not being "non racist" enough, as if he could ever get into their good graces to begin with.

I agree...And he was a damned good character actor as well...

Loved him as Ridley in The Right Stuff...Never did know what his politics were, but loved the music and his acting...

Gone too soon...

Well, sho only sang it because she wanted to own slaves.
That was who the left was even though civil rights had been crammed down their throats and Kennedy made them swallow it.
