The events in Charlottesville, Virginia, are an opportunity to take another look at our terminology around "alt-right" and the way that we describe the various racist, neo-Nazi, white nationalist, and white supremacist groups out there.
At AP, we have taken the position that the term "alt-right" should be avoided because it is meant as a euphemism to disguise racist aims.

There is already a term for "Alt-Left" - they are called "Anarchists" who follow the ideology of "Resist we must".
It just happens that the DemocRATS have championed this phrase and plagiarized it!
ALT-Right
CTRL-Left
Not long ago they were calling Breitbart, Drudge and others “alt-right”.
DELETE those who push to divide America.
Trump called out a reporter yesterday at his last presser to tell him what ‘alt-right’ meant. Of course the reporter failed.
They are eating their words. Trump has the press by the short and curlies!
Maybe they don’t want to use Alt-Right, because Trump started calling the other side Alt-Left.
And therein is where we have our problems in America!
Everyone is part of some identity group. BUL...ONEY SANDWICH! I am ME! That is all I represent and all I control! My actions are no more the result of what ALL HETEROSEXUAL males do, than they are the result of what ALL WHITE MEN OVER 45 do! My actions are MY actions and my thoughts are MY thoughts.
We must move away from this identity groupings, because too many people are easily lead to believe that they have to act a certain way because they are with a certain group, etc... WRONG! BE YOU!
If people don’t like YOU, then change because YOU want to change, or DON’T!
