BALTIMORE - Contractors in Baltimore have removed several of the city's Confederate statues overnight.
The Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson monument in Wyman Park Dell was removed early Wednesday morning.
The Confederate Women's Monument on West University Parkway was removed overnight as was the Roger Taney Monument from Mount Vernon Place. Taney was a Supreme Court justice who ruled African-Americans could not be considered citizens of the U.S.
It is unclear if and when the citys remaining Confederate statue - the Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Mount Royal Avenue - is scheduled for removal.
A commission appointed by former Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake recommended removing two of four Confederate-era monuments in 2015. On Monday, Baltimore's City Council made the decision to remove them.
Current Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh said she wanted the statues to be placed in Confederate cemeteries elsewhere in Maryland.
In an effort to prevent the kind violence seen in Virginia on Saturday when white nationalists came to Charlottesville to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, Pugh did not announce when the statues would be removed.
On Tuesday, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has called for the removal of a statue of Justice Roger B. Taney from the grounds of the State House.
Correct! How is this different than ISIS destroying WWII Allied graveyards, wrecking Iranian and Syrian museums, and Taliban dynamiting History elsewhere?
LOL!
Battle of wits with some dope calling people “cuck”?
Yeah, I’m sooooooooooo intimidated by keyboard commando “armed” with 4Chan lingo and a tiki torch.
To correct other posts on this thread, Catherine Pugh is now the mayor of Baltimore. Rawlings-Blake did not stand for re-election.
I think that the most disappointed people in Baltimore this morning are the idiots that were planning to vandalize, tear down or protest and riot at these sites.
President Trump said yesterday that the decisions about such statues are up to local government. I think that Ms. Pugh’s decision was a pragmatic one. Baltimore does not need any more riots.
I agree. And notice that the hair is "straight" as someone of European or Asian descent might wear their hair. One thing to be said about the Afro is that it is authentic and those who sport it are showing genuine pride in who they are.
True. However Rawlings-Blake is the one who started the ball rolling for removal. It's her baby originally.
Yes, she did.
But I’d bet Pugh just pissed off a lot of grandstanding politicians and “activists”.
They don’t really care about the monuments, they probably couldn’t have told you where they were.
It’s all about the attention and the show. Which has now evaporated.
I'll chalk that up as "I can't answer your question."
I was very happy to hear President Trump make this remark at a press conference. I've often made the same comments in response to establishment Republicans like the vile Lindsey Graham and Nikki Haley who've joined in the Left's hatefest against the Confederacy and against Andrew Jackson. This isn't about the Confederacy or Jackson, it's about implementing a Marxist rewrite of American history. They go after the easiest targets first.
Spot on. That's the point I'm trying to make to my so called conservative friends in social media.
If you think this is about Confederate statues or that the Left's program of cultural subversion will stop with Confederate statues, you're kidding yourself.
I'm not a Neo-Confederate, but I recognize what this is all about. The Left is starting with Confederate statues because they know they can get away with it (thanks in part to attitudes like yours). Next on the agenda is the statue of anyone who ever said or thought anything that violates today's PC speech codes, and afterwards they will be banning and burning books that conflict with PC ideology. That is why monuments to the Confederacy need the support of every conservative American.
Unfortunately, we have to argue the same point with some people on this forum.
You are too obtuse. I can tell that you do not work in law enforcement or national security.
I first read Orwell in 1964, I re-read in 1984, once again in 2004 and then almost threw up trying to read it in 2014!
However, I can tell you don't understand history.
This is how it starts with the Left.
I’m sorry you’re having problems getting it to work. I’ll try to help.
First, in Roku, use the “Search” function to find “OAN” or “One America News” or “One America News Network” or “OANN”. One of those should definitely work (I searched for one of them I can’t remember which). It’s not on the main screen (home screen) and it’s very far down under the News channel selections so best to just search for it.
Once you find it, then simply select it to start it. You should then get a dialog box at some point that will ask you if you agree to pay $5 a month for that channel. Agree to that and you’re good to go. You can cancel anytime online in you account section.
If you don’t get that dialog box you may get something asking you to set up a credit card for payment. Do that because there’s no way to pay for it other than electronically. If you don’t want to use a credit card or don’t use cards in general, you can go to any grocery store buy a pre-paid debit card load it with $60, (a year’s worth of OAN assuming you don’t use it for any other purchase) and you’re good to go. You can even register the debit card under a fake name if you really want to avoid putting your real name to any kind of electronic payment method. Just make sure the card you buy is a kind that can be used for online purchases (some can’t). It’ll say if it can.
Even if you have to go through all the steps above it’s worth it trust me. It’s much better than Fox.
Thank you!!!
I do understand history and it always does not repeat itself.
Sherman should have marched on Baltimore not Savannah. We’d be much better off.
