Race Preview After weeks of ads, mostly on behalf of incumbent Senator Luther Strange, the votes start rolling in tonight after 8pm EDT. Strange faces strong competition from former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who has led him in the polling average by about 5-6 points, and from Huntsville Congressman Mo Brooks, who has trailed Strange in the average by a little over the same margin. If polling is correct, Strange and Moore will advance to the September 26th runoff. We anticipate the first results will roll in within thirty minutes of polls closing. Well have comparison charts and a county-by-county display above as those numbers roll in.
Will another election be held in 2018 against a Democrat?
Will another election be held in 2018 against a Democrat?
Close - it will be December 12th.
The game plan is simple.
Moore did not attack Brooks.
McConnell, Strange and GOP PACS attacked Brooks relentlessly.
There is no reason for Mo Brooks and his voters not to endorse or vote for
Moore, if Brooks does not make it to the runoff.
The truth is conservative votes are beating the hell out of Strange votes.
Moore votes + Brooks votes.
Thanks! It’s amazing how states have their own rules. Any idea who the Dem will be?
It is good news.....but even better news is that the Democrat primary vote is absolutely dismal. Simple...Trump rules!!!
Brooks isn’t going to be in the runoff.
The Republicans.
(D) what’s his name
no, the winner this year will be up in 2020
Or (D) {insert losing candidate here}
It’s not so much their own rules as it’s a special election to fill Jeff Sessions’ seat. the Democrat opponent in Decemeber will be Doug Jones, who I am all together unfamiliar with.
Brooks isnt going to be in the runoff.
No loss.
iIsappointed at Brooks’ showing, but he will continue in his House role, so that’s a consolation prize of sorts.
Duane’s ‘Rebel Rouser’ would be appropriate.

I think Strange has voted as Trump wanted and Trump owed him, plus Mitch wanted a favor and it’s good to have him owing Trump.
But it looks like tonight’s results will damn Strange’s runoff chances and if that is the case I don’t think Trump’s obligated to support him in the runoff.
“The game plan is simple. Moore did not attack Brooks.
McConnell, Strange and GOP PACS attacked Brooks relentlessly.”
That’s true. Judge Moore went after McConnell/Strange. I would not expect Brooks to back Strange, nor would I expect a significant number of Brooks’s voters to do so either.
Are Dims eligible to vote in the Republican runoff?
How long between now and the run-off for the Republican machine to fix the election for Strange?
I would disagree with that, personally. He was certainly the best candidate.
Conservatives were up against big bucks from GOPe and an extensive political network and GOTV. Brooks did well considering.
Mo Brooks is a recovering Never Trumper. Looks like a garden variety climbing careerist, IMO. No loss.
