‘Kid Rock’ May Be Ineligible for Michigan Ballot (Note :The name that is)
Roll Call ^

Elections bureau would decide whether Robert Ritchie can use stage name

Robert Ritchie may end up challenging Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow in Michigan next year, but his stage name, Kid Rock, may not be allowed to appear on the ballot.

Kid Rock is a household name to Americans under the age of 50, and voters might be attracted to vote for him, as a middle finger to the political establishment. But it’s not immediately clear whether his famous stage name would appear on the ballot or if he’d be required to run under his less-known given name.

If he cannot win under his real name , then he is not a good candidate.

Could he put his name on the ballot as Richard “Kid Rock” Ritchie ?

That said, on the issues and in general, I think this guy is a better candidate: http://www.johnjamesforsenate.com

Kid Rock’s main advantage would be name ID, but John James appears to have some bank to jump start a campaign and rectify that quickly.

Debbie StabMeNow isn’t such a tough name to defeat I wouldn’t think.

So "Trump" wasn't a good candidate?

Name change takes about a week and costs like $50.00.

Jesse Venturas real name is James Janos. He didn’t have to change it to run for governor.

Even in Michigan, I think they will figure it out. Pretty sure he is a shoe in under either name.

He’s from Minnesota. Why would he run in Michigan?

Of course Franken ( Baggage handler #2) is a New Yorker and he ran in Minnesota.

Not to mention Hilary (I said not to mention it) was from Chicago via Arkansas but ran in NY state. So there!

NY would not let Al Lewis put “Grandpa” in front of his name on the ballot when he ran for governor.

Eric Boucher ran for mayor of San Francisco following the assassination of George Moscone—under his stage name, Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys. He came in 4th of 7 candidates—another was named Sister Boom Boom—and helped necessitate a runoff.Ultimately Diane Feinstein won.

Soon a law was passed requiring candidates to run only under their birth/”Christian” name

I though of that too, but he’s actually a Black guy, Iraq War vet and wealthy businessman.

2 Black Republicans and Kid Rock, so weird.

IIRC, Al Lewis tried to run as Al “Grandpa Munster” Lewis, and when he was denied the use of such name on the ballot because of NY law, he ran as “Grandpa Al” Lewis. Don’t know how NY law allowed one nickname but not the other.

For those who have been pointing to the Jesse Ventura precedent as evidence that Kid Rock can use his stage name on the ballot, please note that the name that a candidate may use on the ballot is dictated by state law, and Michigan’s electoral laws differ from those in Minnesota. I don’t know if those who say that Michigan law prevents Kid Rock from using his stage name on the ballot are correct, but I do know that saying “Ventura did it” won’t help Kid Rock any.

Frankly, I’m more concerned with whether Kid Rock is a real conservative.
