In the last seven years, there hasnt been one ultimately successful conservative primary challenger to an incumbent Republican Senator.
The last successful challenger to an incumbent liberal Senate Republican was Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah. That was in 2010, and Lee won at a nominating convention, rather than a traditional primary election. In 2012, Richard Mourdock defeated incumbent Senator Dick Lugar, R-Ind., in the primary, but he went on to lose the general election.
Dissatisfaction with Congress remains at an all-time high among Republicans, with only 16 percent of Republican voters approving of the performance of lawmakers on Capitol Hill. It is not unreasonable to hazard a guess that the failure of Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to lead the GOP conference to passing President Trumps agenda plays a part in that dissatisfaction.
Seven years is a remarkable amount of time to make constant promises, only to break them when it counted. Thats exactly what Republicans under McConnells leadership did with their campaign pledges to repeal Obamacare, all of which amounted to nothing. Yet McConnell continually backs candidates for the U.S. Senate who are hostile to conservative principles in the GOP.

Send Judge Roy Moore to Washington!
I’m hoping that all Alabama FReepers vote for Roy Moore. The Judge is a SOLID constitutional conservative who can be depended upon to stand up to the Swamp GOPe and Turtleman McConnell — his history has shown us his oral courage.
Shouldn’t conservatives unite behind one or the other? Seems like with those two splitting the conservative vote, Strange is the winner.
Lamar Alexander is the failure. He leads the committee and has done nothing. The crafting is his failure
exactly
I’ve called my family and ask them to vote Moore.
Every Alabama legal Republican voter, voting in tomorrow’s Republican Senatorial Primary election should cast their votes for Congressman, Mo Brooks. Judge Moore is a good gent, but he will cause only constant attack and pain from the left-wing, Obamabot/Clinton, low life, Democrat, scum & vermin, that will seek to take him down politically 24/7/365. And...Senator Strange is clearly the tainted lap dog of totally useless, failed, weak, Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell.
Even though Strange has been endorsed by POTUS, Trump, it is in reality, that Mo brooks is the true Trump supporter and loyalist. Vote for Congressman, Mo Brooks to become the next Alabama senator and, MAGA.
If Brooks is clearly behind Strange, he should throw his support to Moore so Moore has a chance at 50 percent. Otherwise, the RINOs will put Strange over the top in the runoff.
Strange blew his credibility by taking the appointment in the first place. People saw this as a quid pro quo deal with Gov. Bentley. Stop investigating me, and you can have the open Senate seat. Strange probably also worked something out with Trump to get his endorsement, so he might become an asset, but I will take Moore or Brooks over Strange. Goat Hill swamp creatures are just as bad as Beltway swamp creatures.
Sounds about right but we all know how stupid Republicans are. Count on a runoff-another waste of time.
“Sounds about right but we all know how stupid Republicans are.”
Unfortunately here, the GOPe is any thing but stupid. They are likely salivating for another Mississippi “Two-Step,” and Brooks is playing right into it for them. Look for them to engineer another coup where Strange gets it and The Turtle continues to lead the GOP into the gutter.
“Shouldnt conservatives unite behind one or the other? Seems like with those two splitting the conservative vote, Strange is the winner.”
Good question, but it looks like none of the candidates are near 50%, so in all likelihood there will be a runoff between the top two. Given the skullduggery that McConnell and Haley Barbour engaged in in the Chris McDaniel-Thad Cochran runoff, it would be far safer to eliminate Luther Strange right now, in the primary.
Either Moore or Brooks would be far preferable to Mitch’s pick, so a runoff between those two would definitely end in a better result.
The reason conservatives have not been elected s because they can’t garner the votes to win. There are more republican Republicans then there are conservative Republicans.
We can hope that Alabama has adequate voting conservatives to elect the senator
We’ll see
Yep. I will be voting for Mo Brooks. I have been following this guy for years and he is a solid conservative.
I did my part to primary the SOB out the last time he was up for election, but it didn't work. Sigh.
This will be a run off most likely between Moore and Strange.
I doubt anyone will reach the 50% +1 level to win outright.
Mo Brooks on Mark Levin’s radio show right now talking about the carpet bombing ads that the deep state is running lying about his record.
BTW to all who think we need to do something - don't forget to also
Talking a good plan is useless if one doesn't actually do anything. Then we are nothing more than blowhards hoping for someone else to do our bidding.
